Zoom has just launched its first Fire TV App for video calls through your TV. The app is currently only compatible with the 2nd-gen Fire TV Cube. That’s because Amazon added USB webcam support last year to the current Fire TV Cube but has not yet extended that support to any other Fire TV models. The zoom app for Fire TV allows you to start meetings, join meetings, see screen sharing, and other Zoom capabilities that you’d expect.
To use the Zoom app on a Fire TV Cube, you’ll need a USB webcam. The cameras that Amazon recommends are the Logitech C920 (1080p, ~$85), Logitech C922x (1080p, ~$80), Logitech C310 (720p, ~$35), and Wansview 101JD (1080p, $25), but other cameras that support USB Video Class (UVC) with at least 720p resolution and 30fps will work. You also need a micro USB to full USB adapter, since the Fire TV Cube only has a micro USB port on the back. Amazon recommends cables from StarTech, UGREEN, and CableCreation, but really any one will work. If you want to retain Ethernet connectivity, which uses the micro USB port on the Fire TV Cube, while using a webcam, you’re going to need an adapter that also has Ethernet, like this one from Smays.
Once you have a webcam connected to the Fire TV Cube via the micro USB adapter, you can then launch the Zoom app to get on a video call. Alternatively, you can say “Alexa, join my Zoom meeting” and Alexa will ask for the meeting ID and passcode. If you have your calendar linked to Alexa, and there are Zoom meetings on your calendar, the next Zoom meeting you have will automatically be joined without needing to speak the meeting ID or passcode.
Webcams worked on the very first Fire TV 1. And also work on the Firestick 4K.
Thankfully available in the UK as well, even though we din’t yet have it on the Echo Show 10 or recently added 8…
Do you think they will come out with a “SHOW” app to turn the Fire Cube in to a two way video Show Device?
Anyone has the APK link to try to side load it into a 4K stick?
No luck! :(
Installed V5.7.4.1585 and still have the same set of problems in the FireTV 4K Stick:
– With just the remote, I can’t input an Meeting ID (the selector does not open)
– Cannot connect to Audio of the meeting.
As per Amazon appstore version is 5.7.3.58, if you got the apk please share it. https://www.amazon.com/Zoom-Video-Communications-Inc/dp/B08X11DNP9
I got V5.7.4.1585 from APK Pure (https://apkpure.com/zoom-cloud-meetings/us.zoom.videomeetings/versions)
But if the features are not there, I wonder if there is some special build or anything that I’m missing.
Just a small update here after fidgeting for a couple of hours:
I think there are indeed 2 zoom apps:
– us.zoom.tv (Amazon App Store)
– us.zoom.videomeetings (Google App Store)
I need to get the APK for the first one but no luck so far. I tried to install an old chrome extension to fake a device in amazon app store but was not able to trick AMZ to think I had a FireTV Cube.
Ok, it works fine but you have no camera controls…no zoom / cropping, so plan to be very close to the camera
Can you please supply the APK? Can’t find it anywhere!
I installed if from the Amazon Appstore, just search for “Zoom” no side-loading required
Which device do you have?
Doesn’t appear for my devices (Stick 4K in Germany) so side-loading is the only option.
Gen 2 Fire TV Cube…sorry, can’t help you with the APK
It’s currently only compatible with the Fire TV Cube.
But it doesn’t run at all?
Even if only compatible with the cube, Is weird we can’t find the APK to try it out.
Please share the cube apk, I’ll try it in an android tv OS10
