YouTube TV on Fire TV Sticks now supports 5.1 Surround Sound

Earlier this month, YouTube TV announced that support for 5.1 surround sound would be coming to Google TV, Android TV, and Roku devices with no mention of Fire TVs. Amazon has now reached out to clarify that YouTube TV 5.1 surround sound is now supported on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, Fire TV Stick (3rd-gen), and Fire TV Stick Lite. Oddly, there was no mention of the Fire TV Cube, Amazon’s flagship Fire TV model, supporting the feature. Hopefully, it will gain support in the future, but Amazon did not state that other device would gain support. To check for 5.1 surround sound support in YouTube TV, you can open the “More” menu while a video is playing, select the bug icon, and then look for “AC-3/EAC-3” in the audio codec listing. UPDATE 7/24: Amazon has told me that it “expects many more Fire TV devices to roll out compatibility soon.”

You know what would be even better? If they would fix the lousy picture quality and lip sync issues.

Now let’s get Fire TV Sticks supported with 5.1 in the standard YouTube app!

It’s the same with the 4K streaming for YouTube TV. It’s supported on the Fire TV Stick 4K but not the Fire TV Cube. Not sure why that is the case either.

No 5.1 audio support on my Firetv Max as of 7/6/22. The codec AC3/EAC3 do NOT appear only MP4. My LG is capable of 5.1 & have speaker bar & sub capabilities. YTTV app within LG TV does however broadcast in 5.1 & displays proper codec. Has YTTV pulled 5.1 on firetv max?

YouTube tv is lying, I have three fire sticks and a FireTv smart tv. NONE OF THEM GET 5.1 audio ! I’ve gone round and round with them. After many screenshots asked for repeatedly, the answer from them is we do not support that device. I’ve asked for a detail list of supported devices, they will not provide it.
