Amazon’s Alexa app has gained the ability to control smart home devices from within the app. Prior to this change, the Alexa app was only used to configure smart home devices so that Alexa could control them. Now the app can serve as a central hub where smart home devices from different manufacturers can be controlled through a single interface. Control through the Alexa app is currently limited to lights. You can control their brightness and power state, but cannot control their color. Cameras and thermostats also appear in the redesigned smart home interface in the Alexa app, but they cannot be controlled.
