Xbox app for Game Pass cloud gaming arrives on Fire TV Sticks

It hasn’t been long since the announcement, but the Xbox app for Fire TV is now available in the Amazon Appstore. The new app gives you access to Microsoft’s Xbox cloud gaming if you’re subscribed to the Game Pass Ultimate tier. The subscription costs $16.99 per month, but your first month is just $1 and there’s a way to try one game for free.

As expected from what was announced last month, only the latest Fire TV Stick 4K and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max are compatible with the new Xbox app. The app is a bit difficult to find at the moment, since it’s not coming up when you search for it directly on a Fire TV Stick. That may change by the time you search for it, so the app you’re looking for uses a green background with “Xbox” in white text. Ignore the “XBPlay” app with a black background, as that’s not the one you need. If the Xbox app doesn’t come up, you can go to the app’s Amazon page and select to send it to your Fire TV Stick.

If you don’t have an Xbox Game Pass subscription or aren’t ready to pay for one yet, it’s possible to play Fortnite for free without a subscription. All you need is a free Microsoft/Xbox account, which you can create here. Once you have an account, use it to sign into the Xbox app and look for Fortnite to try the service for free.

How is this not compatible with the 3rd gen cube ? Crazy. I hope that it broadens its compatibility, the specs are identical, only different I see is the WiFi 6E va. Wifi6, and that should absolutely not make a huge difference considering I’ve been using xcloud beta on my cube already as well as my 2018 4k stick. It’s absolutely capable . Interested in what is the hang up.
