With just a few hours left in the day, Amazon’s 3rd annual Prime Day is starting to wind down. What did you buy? Let’s hear about the deals you snagged in the comments.
Element 55″ Fire TV Edition TV for $399.99 (Customer service wouldn’t credit me the difference that I paid for my pre-order, so I’m returning the pre-order $650 TV.) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDC9RBJ/
I picked up a Fire HD 8 (I thought I was going to grab a 7 inch model, but the lure of the $50 tablet with twice the storage, twice the speakers, and a screen that might be good enough for reading comics was too strong).
Also got a pair of shoes for $35 and two pairs of jeans for $16 each.
Oh, and it arrived a few hours ago. It’s a *bit* on the small side for comics, but it’s so much faster than my NOOK HD+ that I’m thinking it might be time to retire the NOOK even though it has a bigger, higher-res display.
Tomorrow I’m going to see if I can get the Play Store up and running so I can try Marvel Unlimited and Google Play Books in addition to ComiXology/Kindle.
LOL! I had no use for 1, yet I also had to fight that urge! As I mentioned in another reply below, I think that was easily one of the best deals of the day, as long as you truly have a need for 3.
An Echo Dot for $27.71. (Had a $10 credit for buying a $2.50 bag of popcorn as my first-ever Alexa purchase). I got a $10 credit for purchasing the Dot via Alexa, too.
This year I had a list of things I wanted, knew what their all-time low prices were, and didn’t make any impulse buys. If it wasn’t an all-time low or very close to it, I didn’t bite.
Bravo on the strategy and the stacked credits. Alexa was definitely giving extra random discounts at one point. A few people contacted me about it. I couldn’t nail down why or replicate it, so I decided to not report on it.
The thought of flopping into that cozy bean bag thing, with just a couple hours of sleep due to deal posting, was too much for my impulse reflexes to handle and I caved :-P
Thank you so much for all your hard work tacking Prime Day and all things Amazon! I wouldn’t have known how good some of the deals were/are without all your efforts.
I really think that is easily one of the best deals of the day. $40 a pop for those tablets is just a ridiculous price! As long as you have a need/use for all 3.
Zinus 12″ Foam Mattress. Been looking at one for a long time. At 40% off normal price I figured what the heck. If I don’t like it I’m not out a ton of money and could give it to one of the kids.
Arlo Q two-pack security cameras for $250. Already own one arlo, and love it. Also got 2 polo shirts. Almost got Sony Bluetooth headphones but have too many headphones already so I resisted.
I’ve been thinking of picking up an Arlo Q. Right now I have one Arlo Pro that’s dedicated as the indoor camera for when I need to keep an eye on something inside, but an Arlo Q would make more sense. I’d love to hear what you think of them the next time I post anything about Arlo cameras.
Absolutely. Cant say enough good things about the Arlo Q. They keep up to 7 days of video captured for free, and you can download the clips, talk through the camera, no monthly or yearly bills like the nest cam. Good night vision also.
Ordered a Echo Dot and got $10 credit. Also ordered the 8 inch fire then canceled the order when I saw your post about the 3 pack. Grabbed that one fast for 119. Thanks so much for your great posts. This site was my go to for all information relating to Prime Day.
Awesome. Glad I could help. With days like today, I’m always worried that people will see my posts as spam or off-topic because the sale dominates the site for a day. It’s nice to hear that people enjoy the coverage.
I agree with you. I think that many people have a problem with buying things that they don’t need, with money they don’t have, in order to impress friends they don’t like. When will we learn that just because something is on sale, that doesn’t necessitate a reason to buy it.
Sounds like something my other friend Dave…Ramsey would say. Last year it looked to me like amazon was trying to clear out the warehouse and then promote their own products. I don’t have a problem with either but not like Amazon Black Friday deals etc.
Interestingly, those are both things I was on the verge of impulse buying but held strong. :-D I really don’t need either, but certainly wouldn’t mind them.
Husband got an Echo Dot with the $10 credit and a Logitech surround sound system for his garage. I got the TP-Link plug for $8.73. I wish I had googled it further because apparently I could have gotten three at that price. Although it’s not like I needed to spend more money lol.
I wasn’t looking to buy anything special, except for my nephew’s birthday is coming up next week, and I bought him an Anki Overdrive kit for christmas last year so I was hoping that some accessories for it would come up in the sale. Turns out they did…kinda, but I’m not sure if that was intentional or not. Basically right at 9PM last night, I checked Amazon and it looks like everything listed under Anki Overdrive was coming up as 20% off. But not only that, when I added a couple of things to my cart, it looked like it was doubling, or even tripling the discounts. I ended up getting about $120 worth of Overdrive accessories for only $26 (I had taken advantage of the free $10 credit last month from the Amazon Cash promotion so that helped matters as well). Shortly after I placed my order for the items, it looks like Amazon found and corrected their error, so I wasn’t able to abuse it for more than what I was legitimately going to give to my nephew, but it sure is nice to be able to get him 5 items this year instead of 1-2. Especially seeing as how overpriced the Overdrive products are.
Wow, that’s awesome! (For you that is, not so much for Amazon ;-P ) Does seem like there were quite a few glitches early on that worked in shopper’s favors. Interestingly, there was a very similar glitch last year that caused double discounts as well.
Purchased 2 of the element 55″ 4k televisions. One for the wife and one for my fathers birthday. Used my mothers Amazon account for the second one in case they wouldn’t allow 2 on the same account. Thanks for the heads up on those deals!!! You made my fathers 70th Birthday!
Why wasn’t there any Fire TV (the streaming box, not the Elements TV) deals? Every other Amazon device was on sale but their streaming box/stick… I was really looking forward to picking up one to supplant my Gen 1 Fire TV Stick :/
I ended up with an Echo Dot (my third), two Echo Dot cases, and the $25 gift card.
Guessing there were no Fire TV Box or Stick deals because of low stock due to the production issues with the remote. Elias has written about the remote problems a few times on this site.
Likely what Erin said. Supply was just too low. The Fire TV actually went out of stock yesterday, just from the extra traffic that Prime Day brought in, even though it wasn’t on sale. So that shows you just how few they had. Fire TV Stick supply is likely better, since they recently ramped up production for the UK/German launch, but probably not enough to cover a big sale.
Asus rt-ac88u- £212 currently around £270
Philips hue motion sensor- £18 current £30
Planet earth 2 4k- £20 currently £30
Cod infinite warfare ps4- £0 (not a typo)- currently £35.50
Had been convinced I was going to buy a Dot, together with an Anker Soundcore Speaker… But when I saw the Echo was going for £79.99 it was too much to resist. Ordered at 1 minute after 18.00 on Monday, arrived yesterday, and now getting to know my beautiful “Lady In White”. Will buy a battery base for her in time, but got to pay yet for the iPad Pro I got two weeks ago! Any suggestions on which is best to get out of the Smatree AE 9000, the Koozie EcoBoot or the EagleTec P070?
I think an Echo over a Dot+speaker was a good choice. It’s much better not having to deal with Bluetooth or aux if you don’t have to.
Sorry, but I don’t know anything about the various batteries.
You bet! That Amex deal is the only one I didn’t post about but probably should have. I learned about it too late in the day and figured only a small percentage would even qualify, so decided to skip it. Glad you were able to learn about it and use it.
It’d had been a year since we parted ways with Prime — not buying enough (four purchases in 2017 before Prime Day) and not really interested in the programming. I was tempted to get back in with Alexa $79 offer, but I resisted. Then came the $10 off the first order, $10 off the first reorder, and the first wave of Alexa deals. The icing on the cake was my first Coinstar adventure — Coinstar waved the 12% fee if you took the payoff in an Amazon eGift card. So I did. Now I’m binging on Sons of Anarchy and welcome suggestions for excellent series with lots of complicated, well developed relationships. So what did I buy?
– Prime (one year)
– toilet paper (first order and first re-order)
– five pairs of Thorlos socks
– iPhone cords
– a gift card
Probably not going to make Jeff Bezos smile, but he really did not work hard to win my business this Prime Day.
That’s how they get you! :-P The incentives to sign up were pretty big. Nearly made the first year free. You may also be getting $10 for streaming your first Prime video. Not sure if having Prime before disqualifies you.
If you have seen them yet, I highly recommend “The Americans”, an FX series about two covert Russian agents living in 80’s Washington and how their work affects their relationship and family. The first 4 seasons are on Prime Video and the 5th will be there in the spring.
“Hannibal”, the Bryan Fuller-helmed prequel series, is focused on the extremely complicated relationship between Hannibal Lecter (before anyone knew of his less delicate hobbies) and the FBI that’s called him in to consult on serial killers. It might be leaving Prime Video in August. Only 3 seasons, so you can catch all of it before then.
I echo (sorry!) the comments about The Americans. Halfway through series 5 at the moment. Excellent. If you get the chance check out the Spanish series Locked Up (Vis a Vis). Makes Orange is the New Black look like a kiddies show.
I bought my daughter an echo dot (white) for her birthday. Got a strange deal on a 14″ trampoline spring cover. It was marked down 20% at checkout..but then amazon threw in some random 26 dollar credit…not sure why. Finally grabbed a Huawei Watch 2 for 210. Hopefully I like it..if not..guess I will return it.
I got a “Like New” Sony Xperia XZ from Warehouse Deals. With the Prime Day 20% off, it was just over $300 and the condition was indeed Like New. Huge shoutout to AFTVNews, because I wouldn’t have known about the 20% off deal!
Bought the FireHD 8 kids edition for my daughter. Also grabbed a refurb Tap and another Dot (technically not on Prime Day but still part of the build up). And some razor blades for that $10 Alexa re-order credit.
Pre PrimeDay start on Monday afternoon I found Oittm’s Alexa compatible smart plugs for $13. Then I got another Echo Dot and also took advantage of the $99 Google Home with Chromecast bundle on eBay.
I picked up a Fire 7″ for my Mom because her iPad Mini is dying. I was very tempted to get the Fire 8 and 55″ Element TV for myself, but I just bought a new 27″ iMac so I resisted the urge with all my will power. There’s always Black Friday! :)
For me, I picked up…
Philips Hue Starter Kit for $119.99 (through Alexa with the bonus $10 credit on the first $20+ purchase)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y3QXSGX/
SanDisk 128GB Type-C USb Drive for $33.59
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EZ0X55C/
Element 55″ Fire TV Edition TV for $399.99 (Customer service wouldn’t credit me the difference that I paid for my pre-order, so I’m returning the pre-order $650 TV.)
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XDC9RBJ/
Bean Bag Chair/Matress Thing for $200 (Yeah, impulse buy. Probably going to regret this one :-P )
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YB57YO0/
An Amazon gift card for that sweat $5 promo credit.
Nice. The Fire HD 8 is well worth the extra $20, so good choice, IMO. It was tough, but I’m hopeful for a new Fire HD 10, so I held out.
I had to resist the urge to buy the 3-pack. I have absolutely no need for three… but the price was so good!
Oh, and it arrived a few hours ago. It’s a *bit* on the small side for comics, but it’s so much faster than my NOOK HD+ that I’m thinking it might be time to retire the NOOK even though it has a bigger, higher-res display.

An Echo Dot for $27.71. (Had a $10 credit for buying a $2.50 bag of popcorn as my first-ever Alexa purchase). I got a $10 credit for purchasing the Dot via Alexa, too.
Anker Soundcore Sport Bluetooth Speaker for $26.71. It was within $2 of its all-time low price, I LOVE my original Soundcore, and wanted a small speaker for the shower. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017JY0UTU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
TP-Link Smart Plug for $8.58. Still don’t understand why Alexa sold it to me for that price, but seems Alexxa gave that deal to everyone last night. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0178IC734/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This year I had a list of things I wanted, knew what their all-time low prices were, and didn’t make any impulse buys. If it wasn’t an all-time low or very close to it, I didn’t bite.
Still thinking about grabbing a Fire 8 tablet, especially since I could use my $10 credit and get it for $39.99.

Hope you get to sleep in tomorrow morning!
You’re welcome!
I’ll definitely be passing out soon.
I ordered the All-New Fire HD 8 Variety Pack, 16GB – Includes Special Offers (Black/Marine Blue/Punch Red) for $119.97!
I really think that is easily one of the best deals of the day. $40 a pop for those tablets is just a ridiculous price! As long as you have a need/use for all 3.
Dot for $26.66 after the $10 credit for ordering an “Alexa Deal”…Funny, I ordered on the website. Figured it would be worth it.

Not a darn thing. Looked like a junk yard sale to me.

An Aukey 20,000mAh portable USB charger thing to make my echo portable for $11. Big spender ha.
I think my wife bought a stroller
Interestingly, those are both things I was on the verge of impulse buying but held strong. :-D I really don’t need either, but certainly wouldn’t mind them.
Do you have a link for the Echo charger? I’m going to put that on a watchlist! Thanks!
It’s not an echo charger per se but rather a generic charger. 20,000 mAh is good for a full days worth of playing an echo.

Sweat! And you’re welcome. Tell your dad happy birthday from some random dude on the internet who helped you save a buck!
You helped me save a bunch of bucks! Thanks again for all the hard work you do here for all of us.

–my first Echo Dot for the $34.99 deal price, minus a $10 credit I already had.
–a Seagate 2 GB USB 3.0 portable drive for the deal price of $59.99.
–an Alexa voice order for the CD version of Photoshop Elements 15 for $39.99.
–lastly, a 64 GB Samsung USB3/dual micro USB flash drive for $12.99, after the $10 Alexa voice order credit.
Asus rt-ac88u- £212 currently around £270
Philips hue motion sensor- £18 current £30
Planet earth 2 4k- £20 currently £30
Cod infinite warfare ps4- £0 (not a typo)- currently £35.50
One Echo Dot for $5. I used my free Dash Wand to order it.
$35 – $10 Alexa promo – $10 Prime Video promo – $5 Gift Card promo – $5 Prime Member promo
Nice! An Echo Dot for a tenth the regular price is impressive!

Echo for $89.99
3 TP-Link HS100 WiFi-Enabled Smart Plugs for $8.03 each. These were a steal and the limit was 3 thru echo.
2 LIFX wifi color bulbs for $34 each
And a free squatty potty after using $10 alexa credit for first prime order and an extra $7.49 credit for using the echo on the purchase.
One thing I noticed about this prime day was the extra savings on some of the items when using an echo device for ordering.
Before Prime day got a refurbished Tap for $39.99 after $30 credit for using $1 in American Express points.
Thanks for keeping us informed on a lot of these deals.
You bet! That Amex deal is the only one I didn’t post about but probably should have. I learned about it too late in the day and figured only a small percentage would even qualify, so decided to skip it. Glad you were able to learn about it and use it.

Element 55″ Fire TV Edition TV for $399.99 (hope this is a decent quality TV; some of the user reviews don’t inspire confidence)
Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet for $49.99
You made finding the deals too easy, er, spending money too easy :) Thanks!
Haha, you’re welcome and I’m sorry ;-)
Don’t want anything, or more importantly don’t need anything, so the answer to your question is nothing
Love your site BTW..check it almost daily.
A silverback basketball hoop. Time to sprain something!
I picked up a Fire 7″ for my Mom because her iPad Mini is dying. I was very tempted to get the Fire 8 and 55″ Element TV for myself, but I just bought a new 27″ iMac so I resisted the urge with all my will power. There’s always Black Friday! :)
Too much.
