Walmart has just released its new Onn 4K Streaming Box with Google TV. This is the successor to its first Onn 4K streamer released in 2021. The new model looks identical to the old one on the outside but comes with some internal improvements and maintains its killer pricing of $19.88.
Since the old 2021 model and the new 2023 model are nearly identical, the best way to tell them apart is by looking at the box. The new model says “Google TV” in the upper left corner because it is running Google’s newest interface on Android 12, while the older model box says “Android TV” in the upper left corner. The new interface and the updated Android version is the first major difference between the two devices.
Under the hood, the new 2023 Onn 4K Streaming Box is powered by an Amlogic S905Y4. This is a very minor update over the 2021 model which used an Amlogic S905Y2. The only real difference between the two is the addition of AV1 video decoding on the newer model. It’s still a quad-core CPU and still has a Mali-G31 GPU. Like the old one, the new Onn streamer still has 2GB of RAM and, unfortunately, still has only 8GB of internal storage.
The included remote is still the standard Google-designed G10 remote that comes with most Android TV streaming devices. The only change on the remote is the inclusion of a Paramount+ app shortcut button whereas the old remote had an HBO Max button. The other three app shortcut buttons are still for YouTube, Netflix, and Disney+. Unlike Amazon, which goes out of its way to stop its remote buttons from being remapped, Android TV devices can have any of their remote buttons remapped through simple apps available in the Google Play Store.
The Onn 4K Streaming Box with Google TV is already listed on Walamrt’s website but is not yet available to order online. You’ll need to check to see if your local stores have any in stock if you want to be among the first to buy one, since these tend to hit store shelves before they’re available to purchase online.
Has Android 12 been confirmed? Thought it was hitting the market with Android 11. And there is a big difference between S905Y2 & S905Y4, ARM Cortex-A53 vs. Cortex-A35, basically medium sized cores vs. small sized cores; to be a true replacement upgrade the small cores would need to be overclocked at 2.4GHz and not the 2.0GHz limit like all other S905Y4 releases.
Google Play dev console lists it as Android 12, so that’s what I’m going off of. It’s also listed as 2.6GHz there, so it does seem to be around the same performance on paper despite the different cores. We’ll have to wait until it’s out in the wild to see if any of that info is wrong.
I hope that they changed the chip for wifi Bluetooth, since the previous version had problems with the remote control.
Me too. I used an extra otg cable and mini keyboard and mouse I had to replace the onn remote since it would not stay connected
I figured it out. Its a conflict with the tv remote, turn the tv off with the tv remote then turn back on with the onn remote and its solved
Just have to hit the button on the box and re pair the remote. (There’s videos out their if u want to watch ) but it came in an ota fox as well
I only had the issue with the remote when the batteries were less than half full. once i put in fresh batteries the remote disconnect issue went away for me.

I have never own a ONN device before. Been in the FireTV echo system for over half a decade. I will be getting 4-5 of these off the gate in the hopes that LineageOS is fully developed for it. At the very least these should let you install what ever you like for the life of the device. And they should be an awesome stop gap for next gen Google TV devices.
It does seems that a lot of folks use FireTV remotes with the prior version of the ONN due to remote connectivity issues. I might try to catch some sales on the Pro FireTV remote or the latest version of the sticks remotes to use with the ONN since that is what I am used to using. Depending if they fix the remote connection issues of the prior ONN remotes on this hardware update.
I will probably start selling off or gifting all my FireTV stand alone devices (x2 FireTV 1 Box (Full Root), x2 FireTV 4K Sticks (rootable), x1 FireTV Cube Gen 3 (New In Box) once I have tried out this version of the ONN Google TV 4K Streaming Box.
I do plan to keep buying FireTV TV’s when on lightning sales since they offer the best value compare to any other latest gen TV’s. But will probably attach an ONN device every time for full control.
The problems are not in the remote control, but in the wifi Bluetooth chip.
Correct. I had an extra otg cable and mini keyboard and mouse so I hooked them up. Then I used onn tv box remote to pair to my chromecast with Google tv hd. It’s much better than the cwgtv
I don’t usually here people talk about the FireTV TV’s. So,are you saying they’re a good buy?
I have the original ONN box and never had any trouble with the remote.I do nothing the box gets real hot.
I might be interested in the Fire Cube gen 3 if you are thinking of selling it.
Pretty sure that Availability: Unknown is all brickseek will show for me on anything when it comes to walmart. Been that way for ages, but the walmart website confirms no where in stock for 100 miles from me.
You really need to call or go to your nearby Walmart’s (more than one probably) to see if they have them. I just bought 5 of these from a Walmart where the website said that location (or ANY location for that matter) had none. Phone calls are cheap. I called 4 other stores before finding one that had stock and they had plenty.
I just created a Wal Mart account, installed the app and ordered mines today: and will get it tomorrow. Good luck my friends.
hey everyone…
im in UK and asked my cousin in cali to get me 3 of these and she got them no problem and hopefully theyre in the post to mw now… definitely hoping these are a good firestick replacement
Will a 2018 Fire TV Stick 4K user find this streamer an improvement? Always wanted to upgrade but even the Chromecast w/ Google TV turned out laggier than the stick at times, despite a better benchmark score.
You should have gotten the Fire Cube if you want fast. Woot just had a big sale and sold out of the Cube.
Found about 20 at my local Walmart (Arizona) today. Tried to buy it but they couldn’t get it to ring up. Must not be in their system yet. Will try again tomorrow.
Not available anywhere
This is a Deal! It’s as good as the $50 Google device. Heck they were charging $26 for the replacement remote.
How do these compare with the Firestick?
I have the Firestick, not Lite, not 4k.
Are these as good, user friendly? Can I run Kodi,Cinema HD & LiveNetTV on these?
they are great, yes user friendly can put any apk on it
have downloaded livenettv ,redbox on this new onn 4k streaming box,but only shows movie rental choices on it,its not like having them on firestick watch usa, tnt, espn and all that.how do i get it to work right?my email darrelit@aol.com ,any help will be appreciated

I had tried the onn 2021 but returned it bc the Android TV interface was no different than those on Android boxes. Hopefully this 2023 version will be less clunky.
I sold all my FTV sticks and am using AirTV 2 and AirTV Mini to get the nice SlingTV EPG with local OTA channels and Freestream programming.
Just picked up 2 today to replace 2 old firesticks (3 and 4 years old) that take painfully long to start playing anything on any app. Checked online and it said not available at the store but when I went they had at least 20.
Where are you located?
I had the first gen version. Great device and value overall but I went back to a Chromecast because I could setup child profiles which I couldn’t on this.
The 8GB of storage is a deal breaker for me and the browsers on Google TV aren’t quite as good as the Amazon Silk browser. Can’t sideload the silk browser on my Google TV device.
Thats why you run ODIN browser made by hisense
They are great and yes you can run all those apps.
google tv sucks it doesn’t support landscape mode when mobile app is cloned/converted to landscape, you are forced to use the mobile app & the downloader app doesn’t work properly with google tv plus the ads are non-stop
spend the xtra $10 & buy the dynalink android tv box
https://www.amazon.com/Dynalink-Android-Support-Streaming-Player/dp/B08YYTVKGZ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
its the exact same box as the original onn box just diff remote & everything works properly
Dynalink is the same box as the first onn. Different remote and that’s about it. But I have no problems
With this googlemtv version plus the android 12 upgrade and the chip upgrade have it running smoother for sure. Also a few minor features have been changed like some
Of the remote buttons. A spot on the back to place a piece of tape provided by onn so you can stick it to your tv or wall etc. I’m enjoying it I’d say go for the dynalink if it had the soc & android update because it’s a clone basically. I find nothing wrong the google tv doesn’t bother me. Personally just my
Opinion. Dynalink has been around a while now and a great device for sure though
My local Walmart has a bunch. Got 2 this morning. Will return for more tomorrow
Where are you located?
My Walmart is stocked full of this new one and I am located in a small town in south-central, OK of that helps you any!!
Has this sight covered the new Xiaomi TV Box S 2nd Gen? It’s on Xiaomi’s website as a teaser (without price).
Has anyone else had a problem with no sound after turning off and then back on using the remote, I have to restart to have sound
Just got mine from Walmart. They had a lot of them. Unfortunately you can’t seem to be able to order online. Not bad so far. The remote is nice. I’m used to operating a firestick remote. Minor irritation is that there is no “clear” feature on the keyboard. Downloader was easy to get. I do have 1 problem with a live streaming app not working. Not sure what’s up since it works well everywhere else. Nice that it came with an HDMI cable. Even the newest Fire TV Cube doesn’t include it. 4k seems pretty good.
All the Walmarts in my area just flipped from “None Available” to “Item Available”, but the closest store didn’t have any on the shelf. Just a tag. Lady that worked the section said she had never heard of it so assumed it was new. I’ll have to go back in a couple of days to check again.
I just created a Wal Mart account, installed the app and ordered mines today: and will get it tomorrow. Good luck my friends.
I think one had to create a Wal Mart account first, and then, try to log in and order what you want. That’s what I had to do. Again, good luck fellow cord cutters.
did they add support expandable storage
That would be a huge plus, instead of doing 50 ABD commands to get write storage to work
yes there did
thank you

My biggest gripe with this device is that the Vudu app does not support 4K UHD playback. It’s limited to HDX and SD only. I suspect this is probably an error with the Vudu app, and not Walmart’s device, so I’ve submitted a ticket to Vudu with all of the necessary technical info. Hopefully they update it soon.
Yep, I came here to mention this. The previous onn. Android TV UHD device had the same problem, never being added to Vudu’s approved UHD devices.
They haven’t responded to my support ticket yet, but I’m going to tweet at them, call them, etc, etc. until they finally fix it. Vudu is honestly the primary reason why I bought this box, so if it doesn’t support UHD playback then it defeats the whole purpose of why I bought it. Wish me luck.
thank you
Ray
Just got back from Walmart. Coventry,RI
The guys were unaware of the product, but checked their stock and found a carton of boxes. Looks like the new Onn box is scheduled to be put on the shelf on “week 16”. This is week 14. It rang up in their POS terminal. Left with 2 boxes. Even though policy was to not put them on the shelf
I think it’s a pretty good box. My only issue with the box is I wish everything was plugged in the back. The HDMI and power hookups, one is in the from and the other is in the back.

I’m used to the fire sticks but tired of all the ads. No more. As long as Downloader works, I’m good. Use your own launcher, Amazon is always trying to stop your launchers. I don’t have to worry about that anymore.
what are launchers?i downloaded the downloader, when i loaded livenettv on the onn box,it only come up with movie rentals.i have fire stick with livenettv on it,and watch usa,tnt and other channels but cant seem to do so on this new onn box,am i doing something wrong?
New google

Nj is stocked up

Thank you!
Bought two!
Does it support HDR and/or Dolby Vision?
Thanks!
