Verizon has launched its Fios TV app for Fire TVs and Firesticks. The app provides Verizon customers subscribed to Fios TV access to live channels, a program guide, on-demand content, DVR recordings, purchases, rentals, and more. This is the first time Verizon is making its app available on devices other than phones and tablets. Unfortunately, the app is only compatible with devices running Fire OS 6 and 7. That means customers with 2nd-gen Fire TV Sticks, which make up the majority of Fire TV devices in the wild, do not have access to the app. Only Fire TV models released in or after 2017 and Fire TV Smart TVs released in or after 2018 are compatible.
Requires a Verizon set-top, and maybe a Verizon router, and maybe costs $20/mo. Really disappointing after waiting so many years. I feel like dropping the TV portion of my FIOS plan. :/
How is it disappointing? I had Fios for years and it was the fastest internet hands down as it’s actually Fiber Optic lines as opposed to xfinity. Are you on eir DSL which is slower at 762/kbs which I agree is disappointing
It is disappointing for me because my 4K fire stick is 5 ft from my Verizon router and I get an ‘out of home error code 9-6-54-302-100’ saying that I’m not connected to my FiOS WiFi router? Doesn’t make sense!
Is anyone else getting this error?
You need to upgrade to a FIOS One set top box in order for this to work
Stu, uh I have gigabit. But the topic is anemic FiOS television services.
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Xfinity Stream App is BETTER and let’s face it, Comcast IS the Evil Empire.
No love for the second gen box, again.
Too much drama. Wake me when it is free (ad supported).
A $20 monthly fee for an app?
Pure old model greed.
Fees, fees, fees FCC doesn’t regulate fees (rates, yes), pile on the fees.
I have two fios One boxes, gig internet, phone a fire tv second gen and I get the “No streaming device” error and to go to my account connections which does nothing
I have a Fire OS Toshiba TV running 7.2.4.4 but the FIOS app is not in the amazon app store.
Anyone else have this issue?
Getting a FireTV Cube to work with FIOS has been a nightmare. The only set top boxes the Cube lists are Comcast/Xfinity, DishTV and DirecTV. The only other option is “Product Not Listed”. When I try to configure that, all it does is turn the TV on and off. This means the only voice commands that work with the Cube are switch inputs, volume up/down/mute and TV on/off. It does not recognize channel names/numbers or channel up/down. That is a huge part of why I bought the Cube. In addition to not working completely with FIOS, the Cube has its own problems. It won’t stay connected to my Bluetooth speaker. Once its connected, it stops working when I switch inputs. Huge fail. Luckily I got the Cube for about half price. Still, I’m VERY disappointed.
