Can’t decide between the Amazon Echo Dot deal for $34.99 and the Amazon Tap deal for $79.99? Well, you can have the best of both worlds for less than the price of the Amazon Tap. That’s because the VAUX Speaker & Portable Battery for the Echo Dot just went on sale for $39.96. It essentially converts the Echo Dot into an Amazon Tap by adding a speaker and rechargeable battery. I’ve never tried the product myself, so I can’t speak to its quality, but it has a great 4.2 star review rating. It claims to have 6 hours of battery life and includes a pair of 52mm Speaker Drivers. While it’s not as small and sleek as the Amazon Tap, it seems like the ultimate option to have portability coupled with the better far field microphone array in the Echo Dot. A look at the device’s price history reveals it has never been on sale before today. Bought the gray/ash one for my white echo dot… will post a reply with how it sounds/works later.
Have you tried it out yet? Very curious about this speaker. I got the tap and it is AWFUL at voice recognition using hands-free. The dot is much better at understanding commands.
Sorry I didn’t get back to this sooner, but I just installed my Echo Dot into it this weekend. It seems to work great. I’m not a speaker expert and may be a little hard of hearing (due to loud rock and metal music blasting in my ears) but this speaker seems to be pretty close to the full blown Echo, it actually seems louder than my Echo at similar volume settings. Definitely an upgrade to the poor Echo Dot sound. I also didn’t have any problems with my Echo Dot hearing me while playing music like some other reviewers have said. Overall, I’m pretty pleased with it so far. The only thing I didn’t really like was that if it’s “on” and I’m charging it, I can’t tell if it’s actually charging or not… LED is just Blue as it is when it’s powered on like normal. Also the back cover where the cables connect is soft rubber which is a little weird when you pick the unit up, you squish it in. Picky issues, but they’re there.
