Toshiba Fire TV Edition television software update lets you power on to your last input

The Toshiba Fire TV Edition televisions are receiving a new 6.2.4.2 (build 738566532) software update that adds a highly requested new option to the settings menu. With this update, you can now configure the TV to remain on the input that was last used when it is powered on. By default, the TV will always display the Fire TV home screen when it is powered on, regardless of the state that it was in when it was powered off. To change this behavior, you can now go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Power On and change the setting to Last Input to prevent the TV from loading the home screen every time. It is unknown if the older Element Fire TV Edition televisions will also be receiving this option in a future update.

In my experience, this feature fails to work after the update.

I discovered this feature on my Toshiba Fire TV purchased on Prime Day and was installed two weeks ago. Thank goodness, without which my wife would still be complaining…

My older Element Fire TV Edition has not received updated software for this feature. It’s currently running 5.2.6.3 (606753920); no update since 06/14/18.

Still no way to disable 15 minute power saver. Annoying as hell. Pause a movie come back 15 minutes later and it’s gone. Have to go find it again.

We purchased a Toshiba Fire TV. I have to use my Toshiba Fire remote to access HDM12 everytime I turn on my tv. After clicking HDM12, I can use my DishTv remote for everything else. How can I change this so that I won’t need to click on HDM12 with the Toshiba remote? So frustrating. I tried the above process, but there is no “last input” to select!

This was working until a few days ago. No longer. Now when I turn it on the home page comes up with the last input displayed in the right corner. Pain in the butt. Anyone else now having a problem with this?

I’m having the same problem. It won’t start up on last input. It starts on the firetv home screen with the cable input that needs to be clicked to watch TV. “last input” did work for about a month, now not so much.

    Yes. Unfortunately it’s on my 90-year-old non-tech mother-in-laws TV

Not only does it not start on correct input, but now for the last few months my Toshiba fire tv won’t work when I switch it back to proper input for Xfinity cable. It says no signal. I have to plug and unplug , system refresh , getting worse. Now I’ve taken to calling comcast but they just told me to call Toshiba.

I bought the Toshiba Fire TV in 2018. When I turn the TV on it goes to the home screen and not just the last input which it is set up to do. Very frustrating to have to keep changing it over to cable when it is already connected and last used. What can be done to fix this?

  13. RF says:

Apparently solved the problem by selecting Home as the initial setting, saving it, and then selecting Last Input.

  14. GW says:

Still having the same problem even with the update. Overnight it seems to revert back to the home screen and then I need to select the input again to watch TV. Maybe this wasn’t such a good buy.

    Thank you!!

Last input not working, I just purchased this toshiba and it’s a pain to have to switch it over to me regular cable every time it’s turned on.,.help

Be sure to check for software updates under: Settings > Device & Software. If an update installs, check again afterwards because there may be more updates. I think there was a bug that prevented it from remembering the last input, but it has since been fixed.

Thanks. The instructions to go to SETTINGS> DISPLAY AND SOUNDS… solved the problem. I purchased the TV m=for my mother-in-law who is elderly and is NOT tech savvy. So every time she turned in the TV she would call someone, ME, to connect to the proper HDMI port. In less than a day I already hated the TV. But, thanks to the first instructions provided now the TV automatically turns on to the right HDMI port. THANKS!!!!

  18. Mike Brown says:

My problem is slightly different. When I turn the TV on using the remote, it initially shows the home screen, but immediately shifts the input to satellite. Once I am on satellite, the only thing I can do with the remote is turn the TV on and off. None of the other keys work. I have tried removing and replacing the batteries in the remote, but that does not work. I also have the same problem with both my remotes.

  19. Rich Jones says:

Just purchased this TV in this ridiculous Home screen coming up every time it’s turned on is a real issue and I can’t change it (no settings as described here). I’ll be returning this TV tomorrow.

I am grateful to have found this article. I just purchased this TV three days ago and was already disappointed I can’t load Spectrum TV app then not being able to turn it on without HDMI1 being active almost had me returning to Best Buy. I followed instructions in this article and instantly all was well. Thank you for the information.
