You can now switch which default browser you use for YouTube directly from the Fire TV settings menu

A new option to select your default browser has been added to the Fire TV’s settings menu with the new 5.2.6.9 and 6.2.6.0 software updates that are rolling out to all models. The new option, located at the bottom of the Preferences menu, allows you to change which browser is used when launching the YouTube shortcut app, without needing to clear the app’s data. Firefox for Fire TV adds Turbo Mode for slightly faster browsing

Firefox for Fire TV has just updated their app to version 1.1. The biggest feature added with the new version is something called Turbo Mode which is supposed to speed up web browsing by blocking third-party trackers. The update also adds support for VoiceView on the Fire TV. Read more ›

Amazon’s Silk web browser is now also available on the new Fire TV 3 and globally

In conjunction with the release of the Firefox Browser for all Fire TV models, Amazon has made their Silk Browser compatible with the new Fire TV 3. When the browser was first released at the end of last month, it was not compatible with Fire OS 6 on the Fire TV 3. Now the app is available on all Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, and Fire TV Edition televisions. In addition to being available on all Fire TV models, the Silk Browser is now also available globally in all countries where the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick is sold.

Update

I forgot to mention that the Silk Browser is also now available on the 1st Gen Fire TV Stick, which it wasn’t prior to today.

Firefox web browser officially released for the Amazon Fire TV

Firefox has officially released their web browser for all Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition televisions. The new app comes just a few weeks after Amazon released their Silk web browser for the Fire TV. Amazon has published a press release for the app’s arrival, so it seems like they worked with Firefox to bring the app to the Fire TV. Read more ›
