Verizon Fios TV app arrives on newer Fire TV devices but excludes older models

Verizon has launched its Fios TV app for Fire TVs and Firesticks. The app provides Verizon customers subscribed to Fios TV access to live channels, a program guide, on-demand content, DVR recordings, purchases, rentals, and more. This is the first time Verizon is making its app available on devices other than phones and tablets. Unfortunately, the app is only compatible with devices running Fire OS 6 and 7. That means customers with 2nd-gen Fire TV Sticks, which make up the majority of Fire TV devices in the wild, do not have access to the app. Only Fire TV models released in or after 2017 and Fire TV Smart TVs released in or after 2018 are compatible.

Verizon giving away dozens of free apps, books, music, movies, and TV shows on Amazon [Expired]

Verizon has teamed up with Amazon for a Thanksgetting Giveaway where they’re offering digital content in the form of apps, books, music, movies, and TV shows for free. This seems like it’s going to be an annual event held the day before Thanksgiving, since last year they had a Connection Day event and gave away 10 apps and 10 songs. This year it has expanded to books and video as well. The 10 apps being given away this year include 5 Fire TV apps, all of which have never been offered for free before.

There are 3 books being given away, as well as 10 music singles ranging from Elvis to Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass”. You can also grab 9 free movies, like Divergent, and the first 3 episodes of 6 different TV shows, like Justified. If you’re a Prime member, be sure to click additional buying options to actually purchase the content that is included with your membership, since content often gets removed from Prime later. The free digital content being offered is free for today only.

Verizon FiOS adopts ‘add-on package’ TV model — Upsets ESPN in the process

Sling TV seems to be causing waves in the traditional TV space because Verizon FiOS announced that it will be offering its FiOS TV customers greater choice by now allowing them to select from seven different $10 channel packages which can be added to a base channel lineup. Sound familiar? For a bundle price of $65 per month, customers get 35 base channels, their choice of two add-on channel packs, and internet service. The service was set to go live tomorrow, April 19th, but not if ESPN has anything to say about it. The cable sports network says Verizon’s new channel structure violates their existing contract with Verizon. With this new add-on based lineup, ESPN’s channels are relegated to a separate sports package. It appears ESPN’s contract with Verizon mandates that their channels must be included with FiOS’s base TV lineup. Read more ›
