These are the 19 Local News Channels now available in the Fire TV’s News app

Last week, Amazon added local news options to the News app on Fire TV devices. They’re starting with 12 major cities and have said that they expect to expand to nearly 90 cities next year. Amazon has announced that their News app on Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, Fire TV Cubes, and Fire TV Edition televisions now has live and on-demand local news for free from 12 major US cities. The Fire TV’s News app already offers numerous national news sources, including CBS News, ABC News, Bloomberg, USA today, and others. News apps for local ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, and Fox stations run by Tegna are coming to Fire TV

Tegna, an American broadcast company has announced that they’ll be releasing new Fire TV apps for their numerous local ABC, CBS, NBC, CW, and Fox affiliate stations by the end of the year. Tegna owns or operates 66 television stations in 54 markets, which you can find listed here. They currently have around 20 Fire TV apps, but most haven’t been updated since 2015 and offer little more than a list of video clips to watch. The new apps are expected to offer a free ad-supported live stream, which is likely the most desired feature of a local news app. If your local station is on their list of channels, you’ll hopefully be getting a new app soon.

CBS launches Free 24/7 streaming sports news network CBS Sports HQ

CBS has launched a new streaming sports news network called CBS Sports HQ. The 24/7 stream will feature live sports news, game highlights, and team analyses. Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television owners can watch the stream completely for free through the CBS Sports app. A cable subscription or CBS All Access subscription is not required to watch. This new network is very similar to CBS’ 24/7 live news network, CBS News, which is also free and available on all Fire TV devices.

Reuters TV app with free live news stream arrives on all Amazon Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks

A new Reuters TV app has just been released for all Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television models. The app offers completely free news coverage from around the world. In addition to the expected on-demand news coverage, it also offers multiple free live video feeds. The app’s “Now” section takes an interesting approach to news videos. It has you select how much time you have available to watch and it plays only enough top stores back-to-back to fill the allotted time you’ve selected.
