New Interface begins rolling out to Fire TV Smart TVs and Soundbars

Amazon has started rolling out the new Fire TV interface to Fire TV Smart TVs and Fire TV Smart Soundbars. The new interface first rolled out to 2020 Fire TV Sticks late last year. Then, in March of this year, the interface arrived on Fire TV Cubes, the Fire TV Stick 4K, and other models. Now TVs and Soundbars running the Fire TV operating system are next up for the interface update. Read more ›

DVR Recordings row from Fire TV Recast added to the Fire TV’s Live tab

Fire TV Recast owners have been among the most vocal to dislike the new Fire TV interface. That’s because the new interface has dropped the “DVR” tab from the old interface, which housed all of the Fire TV Recast’s content in one place, and, instead, split up recorded content from live content in different tabs. A recent update to the Fire TV’s Live tab takes a step to correct that annoyance by adding in a new “DVR Recordings” row, just below the Fire TV Recast’s live content row. Read more ›

Amazon finally lets you hide its preinstalled apps on Fire TVs

Among the features brought on by the new Fire TV interface is the addition of user profiles that allow you to customize the device for different people. One aspect of that customization is the ability to hide apps, without requiring you to uninstall them entirely, so that one user’s apps don’t clutter up a different user’s app list. When the new Fire TV interface first launched with the ability to hide apps, Amazon, unfortunately, decided to not allow its own apps to be hidden. A recent update has, thankfully, changed that and you can now hide any and all of Amazon’s own apps. Read more ›

Recent changes show that Amazon is not done improving the new Fire TV interface — What do you want changed?

The new Fire TV interface is now available on most Fire TV models. Reception of the new interface by Fire TV owners has certainly been a mixed bag. Some love it, others hate it, some can’t wait to get it, others want a way to block it, and everything in between. As pointed out by this comment from HG which highlights the recent addition of progress bars and timestamps to Fire TV Recast recordings in the new interface, Amazon is clearly not done tweaking the new interface. Where to find Fire TV Recast DVR content, recordings, and settings in new Fire TV interface

The new Fire TV interface is a bit more minimalistic when it comes to its navigation menu. While that results in a cleaner and more appealing aesthetic, it also comes with the consequence of burying aspects of the Fire TV under multiple menu layers. The people hurt most by this are Fire TV Recast owners who went from having a “DVR” tab in the navigation menu of the old interface to having to dig several layers into the new interface to find their recordings. To help those Fire TV Recast owners that are still lost, here is where to find your recordings, settings, and OTA channels. Read more ›

Amazon tweaks Navigation Menu on New Fire TV Interface for a 3rd time

Amazon is continuing to tweak aspects of the new Fire TV interface. With the release of the new interface on more devices last week we’re getting their 3rd iteration of the main navigation menu on the Fire TV’s home screen. While each change has been relatively minor, they have been improvements in my opinion. The latest change includes moving the “Library” tab out of the navigation bar and into the “Find” tab. This simplifies the navigation menu slightly, but, more importantly, allows for app icons to become larger and more legible. Read more ›

Fire TV Stick 4K is not getting Fire OS 7 with the New Interface Update

Many Fire TV Stick 4K owners were holding out hope that the new Fire TV interface update that started rolling out to their devices last week would bring with it an update from Fire OS 6 to Fire OS 7. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. When the new interface arrives on a Fire TV Stick 4K, it moves it from software version 6.2.7.7 to version 6.2.8.0, which keeps it on Fire OS 6. Read more ›

2nd-gen Fire TV box will not receive the new Fire TV interface

Amazon has informed me that, along with the 1st-gen Fire TV and 1st-gen Fire TV Stick from 2014, the 2nd-gen Fire TV box released in 2015 will also not be receiving the new Fire TV interace. I mistakenly thought 2015 and newer devices would receive the new interface update, and incorrectly stated so previously, but it turns out that the much-loved Fire TV 2 is just behind the cut-off of 2016 and newer models. Fire TV Stick 4K, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV 3 will get Amazon’s new Fire TV interface in March

So far, Amazon’s new Fire TV interface has only been pushed out to the Fire TV Stick Lite and Fire TV Stick 3 that were released last year. It won’t be that way for much longer because we now know that the Fire TV Stick 4K, the Fire TV Cube (both 1st and 2nd gen), and the 3rd-gen Fire TV (pendant) are next in line to get the interface update, according to Protocol. Those four Fire TV models should be updated to the new interface in March. Read more ›
