MSG+ app arrives on Fire TV devices with live regional sports

Sports fans in the New York metropolitan area will be happy to learn that the MSG+ app has arrived on Fire TV devices. The app allows streaming of live games from the NY Knicks, NY Rangers, NY Islanders, NJ Devils, and Buffalo Sabres. It also provides a library of on-demand original content, team stats, and more. Unfortunately, the app appears to only be compatible with Fire TV devices running Fire OS 7 and 8. That means that Fire TV models released before 2019 aren’t able to install the app.

Redbox streaming app coming to Fire TVs later this year

A Redbox streaming app will arrive in the Amazon Appstore for Fire TV devices “later this year” as spotted by Cord Cutters News. Redbox’s parent company Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (CSSE), which acquired the DVD/Blu-ray rental company turned streaming service last year, has announced the new app’s release as part of a larger deal with Amazon that will bring Amazon Interactive Video Ads to Crackle, also owned by CSSE, making it one of the first third-party services to support the advanced ad format which allows customers to add a product to their Amazon shopping cart directly from the ad break screen. The ads will also make their way into the Chicken Soup for the Soul app and the upcoming Redbox app. Redbox’s streaming apps, already available on Android/Google TV, Roku, and Apple TV devices, provide on-demand TV shows and movies for free with ads or to rent and own. It also offers several free ad-supported live streaming channels.

The full-fledged TikTok app is now available for Fire TV owners in the US and Canada. The app was first released in the UK, France, and Germany earlier this year but now it has come overseas. A very underwhelming app called More on TikTok was widely released last year, but it offered nothing more than a series of compilation videos that highlighted TikTok content. This newer is the TikTok app you expect, with full access to “For You” and “Following” feeds, a Discovery page, and more. The app is compatible with all Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV Smart TV models.

Verizon Fios TV app arrives on newer Fire TV devices but excludes older models

Verizon has launched its Fios TV app for Fire TVs and Firesticks. RetroArch, the very popular front-end app for emulators, is now available in the Amazon Appstore for all Fire TV devices, including Firesticks, Fire TV Cubes, and Fire TV Smart TVs, as spotted by Liliputing and XDA. RetroArch is not an emulator on its own, but it allows you to install numerous game engines, called cores, that can then emulate consoles such as NES, SNES, PlayStation, GameCube, Wii, and much more. While there are many standalone emulators that can be sideloaded, the benefit of RetroArch is that it provides a unified interface for all emulators in order to simplify the process of setting up and using multiple emulators.

TikTok releases official Fire TV app in the UK, France, and Germany

TikTok has released an official full-featured Fire TV app in the UK, France, and Germany. This is the same app that was released to Andoird TV earlier this year. Unfortunately, the app is not yet available in the US and other regions, but you can sideload the app using this guide and the entering 2133 (or aftv.news/2133) into my Downloader. Unlike the “More on TikTok” app released last year, which is essentially just a feed of curated videos from TikTok’s YouTube channel, this new app actually replicates the functionality of TikiTok’s popular mobile app. The app lets you view videos in both the “For You” feed or your “Following” feed. The app also has a personalized “Discover” page where you can find more videos categorized by content, creators, and categories.
