Adult Swim releases all new app for all Amazon Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks

Adult Swim, the adult-oriented nighttime side of Cartoon Network, has just released a new app for all Amazon Fire TVs, Fire TV Sticks, and Fire TV Edition televisions. The app a healthy mix of free ad-support content as well as content that requires logging in with a TV provider. A marathon feature within the app lets you select a single show and watch an endless stream of episodes from that show that you have little control over. There is, of course, regular on-demand access to select episodes as well. If you activate the app, you’ll also be able to access live streams of what is airing on the network’s cable channel, called a TV simulcast, as well as an all-day stream of content. A program guide for both streams is available to see what is scheduled to air in the future.

Dallas Cowboys release their own dedicated Amazon Fire TV app with live streams

The Dallas Cowboys have just released their own dedicated app for all Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, and Fire TV Edition television models. This app is significant because I believe it’s the first time a professional sports team has taken it upon themselves to bring content directly to their fans on the Fire TV, instead of relying on their league’s all-encompassing app, and boy is it a lot of content. The Cowboys Now app offers free access to live streams of pre- and post-game shows, as well as live daily video podcasts and live press conference streams. The app also has a ton of on-demand content like news shows, documentaries, and studio shows. While many leagues seem to be slow to adopt streaming media and continue to rely on cable and broadcast television for their content, it’s refreshing to see a team go directly to their fans with their own app.

The Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick lineup of streaming apps from cable networks is fairly robust these days. So much so that there aren’t too many major networks missing from the platform, so new network apps are rare these days. EPIX has been expected on the platform, after hinting at an upcoming app, and now they’ve finally arrived with an all new Fire TV app. Like so many cable network apps, the new EPIX app does require activation through a TV provider before you can view any of its content, but once activated, the app provides access to a very robust library of movies.
