Disney is launching an ad-supported Disney+ plan and increasing the price of existing Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ plans

Disney has announced that it will be launching an ad-supported plan for Disney+ on December 8th in the US. The new plan will cost $7.99/month, the same price as the ad-free plan currently costs. On that date, the current ad-free Disney+ plan will increase from $7.99/month to $10.99/month. Disney also revealed that, on October 10th, Hulu’s ad-supported plan will increase from $6.99/month to $7.99/month and the ad-free plan will increase from $12.99/month to $14.99/month. Hulu begins displaying content in HDR on Fire TVs

If you’re not a regular Hulu user, it may be a shock to learn that the streaming service did not offer any content in High Dynamic Range (HDR). That has finally changed because Hulu is now streaming a small subset of its movies and TV shows in HDR on Fire TVs, as well as other streaming devices. The HDR selection is currently limited to only about two dozen shows and movies, of which most are Hulu’s own originals, but at least it’s a start. Hulu has just released a new subscription plan for U.S. college students that is just $1.99 per month. That’s 67% off of the regular price of $5.99 per month for the streaming subscription that includes ads. Hulu is not offering students a discount on the ad-free $11.99 per month plan and this student plan cannot be combined with the bundle that includes Disney+. The Hulu student plan allows for 2 simultaneous streams. YouTube TV, Hulu, and Sling TV are integrating into the Fire TV’s Live tab and Channel Guide

YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, and Sling TV are the newest streaming services that are integrating their channels into the Amazon Fire TV’s various live TV interfaces. Sling TV started to roll out this intebgration a few months ago, but now it and YouTube TV’s integration is available to everyone, joining streaming services Philo and Pluto TV, which were already integrated. Netflix raises prices and Hulu lowers some prices while raising others

Netflix has raised prices between 13 to 18 percent across all three of its subscription plans in the US. Their $10.99 HD streaming plan has increased to $12.99, while the $14.99 4K streaming plan has increased to $16.99. The basic SD plan has increased from $7.99 to $8.99. These prices go into effect immediately for new subscribers, while existing subscribers will see the price hike within a few months, depending on their billing cycle. Hulu has decided to lower the price of its ad-supported plan from $7.99 per month to $5.99. Their $11.99 “no commercial” plan will remain at its current price. What will increase is Hulu’s Live TV service, which is going from $39.99 to $44.99 per month. Hulu’s price changes go into effect on February 26th.

Spotify, the streaming music service, and Hulu, the streaming TV service, have teamed up to offer a new joint subscription. For $12.99 per month, you get Spotify Premium, which costs $9.99 per month on its own, and Hulu’s limited commercial streaming plan, which costs $7.99 on its own. The joint plan, which saves you $5 a month over subscribing to the two services individually, is being offered and billed by Spotify. It’s currently only available to existing Spotify Premium subscribers, but it will be made available to everyone else this summer. When you sign up for the new joint plan, you’ll pay $0.99 to get 3 months of Hulu and then you’ll be charged $12.99 per month after the first 3 months have passed.
