Some HBO Max apps, including sideloaded versions, have stopped working today because HBO just released a new version of their app. The app is now displaying the “Unsupported Version” message seen above. HBO Max is officially coming to Amazon Fire TVs on Tuesday November 17

The wait is over. HBO and Amazon have reached an agreement and have announced that an official HBO Max app will be arriving on Amazon Fire TVs, Firesticks, Fire TV Edition televisions, and Fire tablets this Tuesday, November 17. The new version of HBO has only been available on Fire TVs via sideloading since it launched earlier this year in May. How to update your sideloaded HBO Max on Amazon Fire TV and Firestick — Updated Feb. 2021 w/ Latest APK

Since HBO Max is not yet available in the Amazon Appstore, it must be sideloaded. Instructions for how to sideload the app can be found here, but you might be wondering how to update the app once you’ve already installed it. The process for updating is identical to sideloading. Simply open the Downloader app, enter the URL to the newer APK, download it, and install it. The new version will automatically update/replace the old version. You do not need to uninstall the existing version first. A new version 50.2.0.37 of HBO Max was just released and you can get it by entering bit.ly/firehbo (see update below) into the Downloader app. If you need more detailed instructions, follow this guide. HBO NOW app will become ‘HBO’ and HBO GO app will be removed on Fire TVs

Just a day after posting about the possibilities of what will become of the HBO apps on Fire TV devices, we now have some definitive answers. Amazon and HBO have still not reached an agreement to bring the new HBO MAX app to Fire TV devices, but they have reached an agreement to keep some kind of HBO app access on the device. On August 1st, the existing HBO NOW app will remain on Fire TV devices, but it will be renamed to simply ‘HBO.’ At the same time, the HBO GO app will be removed with no replacement app. Read more ›

HBO GO and HBO NOW apps will likely be removed from Amazon Fire TVs on Aug 1

HBO and Amazon have not been able to reach an agreement to bring the new HBO MAX app, which is supposed to replace both HBO GO and HBO NOW apps, to Fire TV devices. According to Variety, the existing arrangement between HBO and Amazon is set to expire on July 31st, which means that, come August 1st, one or both of HBO’s apps may be removed from Fire TV devices.
