Playcast Beta Review: Cloud Gaming on the Fire TV

Yesterday, Playcast Media announced the start of their Cloud Gaming beta trial for the Fire TV. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, cloud gaming allows you to a use a graphically weak device like the Fire TV to play high-end video games remotely running on a server. The advantage of cloud gaming over traditional local gaming is the ability to play games on inexpensive hardware that would normally require expensive dedicated game consoles like the Xbox One or PlayStation 4. Playcast Media opens Beta Signup for Fire TV Cloud Gaming

Playcast Media has developed a Fire TV app for their cloud gaming service. The app starts public beta today. The service allows you to play high-end video games on the Fire TV which would normally be too computationally intensive for the Fire TV’s processor. Instead of running the games locally on the Fire TV, the games run on Playcast’s servers which stream the game’s video to your device. You can sign up for the beta trial here.

Fix PS4 DualShock 4 button mapping on the Fire TV

The PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 controller is one of the best alternate game controllers that easily connects to the Amazon Fire TV right out of the box. The only problem with the controller is that the Fire TV sees it as the official Amazon Fire Game Controller which results in some buttons being mapped incorrectly. User lilcza1 on the XDA-Developer forums has created a custom android keylayout (.kl) file which correctly maps the DualShock 4 buttons. Amazon Fire TV capable of at least 12 player multiplayer gaming

Eric Froemling, the developer of the immensely fun multiplayer game BombSquad has posted the above image of the Fire TV connected to a whopping 12 controllers. It appears to be 6 controllers via bluetooth, 4 controllers via USB, and 2 smartphones via WiFi.
