Today is the last day to buy the Echo Dot designed by fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg for $59.99. Tomorrow, at 8:59 Am PDT, the price increases to $69.99. The “Midnight Kiss” print, seen above, is the only one of the 3 limited designs to receive enough pre-orders to be produced. The second most popular print, called “Ikat,” has only reached 82% of its pre-order goal and, with only 1 day to go, it will very likely not be produced. If you order the designer Echo Dot, it will ship between Dec. 2021 and Mar. 2022. Should you change your mind after the fact, Amazon says you can return these limited-run Build It devices just like you can any regular Amazon device. Read more ›
Last month, Amazon launched its 2nd set of crowdfunded products which were 3 different Echo Dots designed by fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. The first of those 3 designs, called Midnight Kiss, has reached the minimum order threshold. This means that it will, in fact, be produced and released. If you’re interested in one, you should order it by August 13 because the $59.99 price will increase to $69.99 after that date. The limited-edition Echo Dot will be released between Dec. 2021 and Mar. 2022. The black and white Ikat design has received 51% of necessary orders needed for production and the Twigs design is at 17%, so it’s unlikely that either of those two designs will receiving the necessary pre-orders needed by the August 13 deadline for them to be produced.

Today is the last day to pre-order Amazon’s Smart Sticky Note Printer for $89.99. Tomorrow, March 19 at 8:59 am PDT, the price will increase to $114.99. This is one of three devices that Amazon introduced to kick off their Kickstarter-like crowdfunding program. The other two devices, a smart nutrition scale and a smart cuckoo clock, have currently only received 61% and 58% of their needed pre-orders, respectively, to be produced, so it doesn’t look like they will actually be released. The smart sticky note printer reached its pre-order goal in only 3 days, so it will be released sometime between July and September of this year. Unlike other crowdfunding platforms, there is no risk with Amazon’s program because you don’t get charged until the device ships, and even then, it’s treated as a standard Amazon purchase so you may return it for a full refund.
Amazon has kicked off a new crowdfunding-like program called Build It where they allow customers to pre-order a new product that will only be built if it reaches a pre-order goal. Customers can cancel their pre-order anytime and even return products after they ship, like any other Amazon purchase, making the program far less risky than traditional crowdfunding platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. The program is launching with 3 Alexa products: a Smart Cuckoo Clock, a Smart Nutrition Scale, and a Smart Sticky Note Printer. Read more ›
