Channels DVR app now works with Tablo OTA Tuners

Channels is a great app for those wanting one of the best over-the-air DVR experiences across streaming and mobile devices. The app and server software are constantly being improved and the latest beta pre-release update has now added support for Tablo tuners as spotted by Zats Not Funny. Prior to this change, the Channels app only worked with HDHomeRun tuners, but now, those of you with Tablo devices can also give it a try if you’re looking to change things up. While Tablo excels in being an all-in-one solution, to use Channels you will need to run the Channels Server software on a separate device, like a PC or NAS, and pay either $8/month or $80/year for a Channels subscription after its one-month free trial.

Channels app for HDHomeRun tuners is now free for iPhones and iPads

The developers of the Channels app have announced that their app will now permanently be free for iPhones and iPads. The app was originally designed for Apple TV, so the extra effort required to port it to mobile devices necessitated charging for the iOS version. As Channels launched on other platforms, including the Fire TV, purchasing the single app made it available on both TV and mobile devices. Since there is no easy way to backtrack and combine the now separate iOS and Apple TV apps, the developers decided to keep things simple and make the iOS version free for everyone. Read more ›

The Channels app, which gives owners of HDHomerun networked TV tuners an alternative way to watch live TV debuted in the Amazon Fire TV appstore last month.
