As Amazon always does after a big sale event, they’ve released some figures for their Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend. The Amazon Echo Dot, at $29.99, was the best-selling product on Amazon globally. Interestingly, it’s the only Amazon device that is still available at its sale price. The Amazon Fire TV Stick, at $24.99, was the second best-selling product. Amazon says that 2.7 times as many Fire TV Sticks were sold during this year’s sale than last year, when it was $29.99. Amazon continues to claim that the Fire TV is “the #1 streaming media player family in the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Japan, across all retailers.” Oddly, since it wasn’t even on sale, the Amazon Echo Spot sold well and has sold out until next year. What did you guys think of this year’s sales? Let’s hear what you picked up in the comments.
A few new really good deals on Philips Hue bulbs and starter kits were just added to Amazon’s list of Alexa Deals, so I thought it’d be a good idea to round up al the Black Friday deals on Philips Hue products. Philips makes, in my opinion, the best smart light bulbs. That’s why I’ve personally gone all in with their products in my home. They certainly aren’t the cheapest way to control your lights with Alexa, but for something you literally use multiple times every day, I think it’s worth spending a little extra. Read more ›
A 3 pack of Fire HD 8 tablets has just gone on sale for $129.97. By purchasing the 3 pack, you’ll save an extra $20 compared to buying them individually at the $49.99 sale price. It’s a pretty crummy move by Amazon to only now put the 3 pack on sale, after many of you interested in multiple Fire HD 8 tablets have probably already made separate purchases. If you’ve already purchased a Fire HD 8 tablet but would have rather purchased this discounted 3 pack, you can try to cancel your original order. There’s also a 3 pack of Fire 7 tablets, but that has not gone on sale…yet. I suspect it too will drop in price later today, probably to $79.97 like it was during Prime Day, so keep an eye out for that if you’re interested. I’ll, of course, post about it if it does go on sale.
The Logitech K400 Plus Keyboard is on sale for $17.99, which matches the lowest price this keyboard has ever been. If you sideload apps on your Fire TV that are not optimized for use with a remote control, this is a great keyboard to use because it combines a touchpad into a compact form factor that is still big enough to touch type. It connects through a wireless USB adapter, so it’s ready to use for Fire TV 1 and 2 owners, but Fire TV 3 and Fire TV Stick 2 owners will need to use an OTG cable. Also on sale is the higher end K830 Keyboard for $39.99. That also matches the lowest price it has ever been. The K830 offers some premium features over the K400, like illuminated backlit keys. The K830 works through the included USB dongle or through Bluetooth, however, I’m told that the Bluetooth connection is not compatible with the Fire TV Stick and requires repeated reconnecting with the Fire TV box.
As I peruse all the various deal and tech websites looking for the best Black Friday deals to post, it’s clear that everyone is focusing on Amazon’s knockout tag team duo: the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick. On Tuesday, Amazon will inevitably put out a press release telling everyone that they sold a gazillion Echo Dots for $29.99 and a bazillion Fire TV Sticks for $24.99. What probably won’t be mentioned much is their newest tablet because the Fire HD 10 for $99.99 is easily one of the best deals this Black Friday that everybody is forgetting. Read more ›

They’re back! The Element Fire TV Edition televisions just came back in stock a few minutes ago. The 50-inch is still $299.99, which is 45% off the regular price of $549.99 and the 55-inch is $399.99, which is 37% off the regular price of $629.99. Both of these sizes have sold out every time they’ve been available at these prices, so act fast if you’re interested. The 43-inch is $427.49 and the 65-inch is $854.99, which are both 5% off of their regular prices and not much of a deal.
To get buyers started with smart home devices, Amazon is offering buyers of any Echo device a smart plug for $5 dollars extra. By including the heavily discounted Echo Dot in the offer, it makes the bundle one the best deals for Black Friday. The Echo Dot and TP-Link Smart Plug bundle is only $34.99 total. With the Echo Dot normally $49.99 and the TP-Link plug commonly $29.99, the current bundle is 56% off. The two devices complement each other very well because they give you the first two components of a smart home setup: something that can be controlled and something that can do the controlling.
Here is a roundup of some of the Black Friday Deals on security cameras that are compatible with Alexa. All of these cameras allow Amazon Fire TV and Echo Show owners bring up live camera feeds by simply asking Alexa. Read more ›
The FLIRC Universal IR Receiver for the Amazon Fire TV is on sale for $14.99 at Tanga with free shipping. This matches the lowest price I’ve seen for the newer 2nd Gen version of the FLIRC. This device lets you control Fire TVs and Fire TV Sticks with any standard IR remote. You plug it into a PC and teach it what you would like any of your remote buttons to do. Then, when you plug it into the Fire TV, it performs the actions (e.g., up, down, play, pause, menu, etc..) when it detects the corresponding IR signals. FLIRC works with the 1st and 2nd Gen Fire TV without anything extra, but you may want to use a USB extension cable to position it in a good spot. FLIRC also works with the 3rd Gen Fire TV and 2nd Gen Fire TV Stick, but you will need to use an OTG cable. Be sure to check all the other Black Friday deals for other remote control options on sale.
