Access to Amazon Appstore on Windows 11 begins rolling out

Starting today, Microsoft is opening up access to a preview of the Amazon Appstore within the Microsoft Store on Windows 11 PCs. The partnership between Microsoft and Amazon was first revealed last June and access has only been possible to those in the Windows 11 Insider Program. More importantly, only about 50 apps were available previously but now there will be more than 1,000 apps available with this wider rollout. Once the update arrives on your PC, you should be able to simply open the Microsoft Store on a Windows 11 device and search for Android apps to install as you would any other PC application.

Amazon reduces its cut of Appstore revenue from 30% to 20%, effective last week, leaving developers with more revenue

Six months ago, Amazon announced that it would follow in the footsteps of Apple and Google by reducing how much revenue it keeps from Amazon Appstore purchases. Amazon expanded the availability of the Amazon Appstore to include Mexico several years ago, but many apps have always been excluded. That’s because customers in Mexico did not have access to any apps that were not free or included any kind of in-app purchase. That included my Downloader app because, even though it is a free app, the in-app donation buttons have kept Fire TV users in Mexico from downloading the app. That finally changes on November 1st because Amazon is adding support for appstore payments in Mexico. On that date, most paid apps and apps with in-app purchases, including Downloader, will become available in Mexico.
