It has been just over 6 years since Element and Westinghouse released the first ever smart TVs running Amazon’s Fire TV operating system built in. While they’re certainly not up to par with modern Fire TV Smart TVs in many ways, they are still perfectly functional TVs and I still use mine every day. Amazon has announced that its flagship Omni QLED Fire TV Smart TVs are gaining a new dynamic art collection that can be set as the TV’s background while displaying the Fire TV Ambient Experience. In collaboration with artist Samuel Stubblefield and his technical lead Ethan Rainbolt, the dynamic art is personalized by using algorithms to change based on the ambient light in the room, your location’s weather, and the time of day. This new dynamic art option can be found in the Fire TV’s ambient gallery options, which can be accessed by saying “Alexa, go to Ambient gallery,” starting today in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, and Mexico. As the Amazon Omni QLED Fire TVs are the only ones with the Fire TV Ambient Experience at the moment, they are the only Fire TV devices that support this new feature.
When Fire TV smart TVs first launched in 2017, and for several years after, the available models sat strictly in the low-budget range of 4K TVs. Just over a year ago, Funai became the first and only producer of Fire TV smart TVs in Japan. The 4K-capable Funai F340 Series and the HD-only Funai F140 Series TVs have been sold in Yamada Denki stores, one of Japan’s largest consumer electronic retailers, and have been well received on Amazon with over 4-star ratings across the board. Panasonic has announced a full range of new 2023 4K TV models this morning and included among them is Panasonic’s first TVs to run Amazon’s Fire TV operating system. While the new Panasonic MX800 Series TVs, as they’re called, aren’t as cutting edge as some of the other Panasonic TVs announced, like Panasonic’s first Mini LED TVs and flagship OLED TVs, they do include an 85-inch model, which is the new largest Fire TV Smart TV ever produced. Best Buy has just listed new 2023 model year Fire TV Smart TVs from Toshiba. These new C350 Series 4K TVs are updated versions of Toshiba’s first C350 Series TVs released in 2021. The C350 Series TVs fall in the middle of Toshiba’s Fire TV lineup where they offer better specs than the cheaper Toshiba V35 Series but aren’t quite as good as Toshiba’s M350 Series TVs.
