SPMC version 16.7.2 has been released with updated media scrappers

The media player SPMC has just been updated to version 16.7.2. SPMC is a fork of Kodi that some people prefer over the original media player. This latest version includes the latest version of the media metadata scrappers that populate the app’s database and library views. The easiest way to install SPMC or to update an existing installation on an Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick device is to use my Downloader app and enter bit.ly/spmc1672 into the URL field on the app’s home screen. If you’re using a 2nd Gen Fire TV and prefer to use the 64-bit version of SPMC, then enter the URL bit.ly/spmc641672 instead.

Wait so the 64 bit version works with my firetv 2nd gen? Is there any benefit?

Any idea why the developer doesn’t move to krypton? I feel like these are bug fixes of an older version…?

    It is a bug fix.

Its basically an adjustment of the api to the moviedb scraper to restore previously existing functionality after the moviedb folks changed their interface.

IOW, its just to keep the current version functional.

As to moving to a new version, yes, there seems to have been something that has slowed koying down. Its might be the change in Android that disabled…IDK, “native” I guess you could call it, support of Dolby True Sound (DTS). But that’s just a guess on my part. The Kodi folks haven’t been able to solve it and instead have just released a version of Kodi Krypton that supports the old way of supporting DTS along with a lot of CYA qualifications about how it might make your ears bleed and your children sterile or something…. My speculative guess (and its only that) is that koying is struggling to find a more elegant solution to the problem. But who knows, it might be something completely unrelated, a real life reason even (seriously, who has those anymore…?)

Can’t comment on Koying, but as for Kodi and DTS passthrough, I’d suggest you read at least the first post in this thread:

I’m still using my 1st gen FTV box since I need the optical output (old pre-HDMI receiver), so SPMC it is for me, but post 976 in same thread seems to indicate that the FTV3 will play nicely with Kodi, FWIW…

And post 966 mercifully killed all my hopes of ever seeing a compatible version of Kodi until I update to newer hardware.

Another vote for SPMC, especially for 1st gen Fire TV SPDIF audio only folks. It’s the go-to media player for DTS support. Also, as discussed in the Kodi thread, with SPMC there are no spurious white noise bursts when setup for pass through of digital audio.

Does anyone know if this version has moved to the kodi v17 database?

63 bit version does not install on a new 2nd gen stick. 32 bit version does. Good to see my old friend, Jarvis.
