Sling TV app for Fire TV “Coming Soon”

Now that Sling TV invitations have finally begun arriving to select customers, Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick owners are facing the unfortunate truth that the Fire TV version of Sling’s Android app is not yet available. On Sling TV’s FAQs page, the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick are listed under a “Coming soon” section along with most Roku devices, PC, Xbox One, and the Nexus Player. At this point, only Mac, iOS, Roku 3, and Android tablets & phones are supported.

The good news is that several people have let me know that sideloading Sling TV’s Android app on to the Fire TV works surprisingly well. So if you’ve already received your Sling TV invitation and have signed up for the service, you can download their Android app from this link and try it out while you wait for the official Fire TV app to be released.

Tried sideloading it tonight and it says it is not compatible with the device and hangs.

  2. Knautz says:

Sideloaded the .apk on my AFTV, doesn’t work. I just get a message that says, “This version of Sling TV is not supported on this device. Please try re-installing from the app store. (2-49)”

  3. Josh Y says:

This does not work. “Sling TV is not supported on this device.”

  4. RgnKjnVA says:

“However, Sling TV has updated their Android app to detect “unsupported devices”, like the Fire TV, and not allow viewing. The good news is the old app still works great on the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. You can download it here and use it while you wait for the official Fire TV app to be released.”
