SiliconDust to discontinue HDHomerun Premium TV streaming service

SiliconDust, makes or the HDHomeRun line of networked OTA tuners, has announced that they will be ending the HDHomeRun Premium TV streaming service over the course of the next 30 days, as first reported by CordCuttersNews. The shutdown is likely a result of a pending lawsuit against Omniverse One World Television, which provides the streaming channels offered by the HDHomeRun Premium TV service.

Amazon recently removed the HDHomeRun app from their appstore, again, likely due to the questionable legality of Omniverse’s claimed rights to stream network channels. SiliconDust says that current subscribers will be able to continue streaming content until their current month of service ends, at which time the service will not be renewed.

Hopefully, that means that the HDHomeRun app will return to the Amazon appstore sometime in the next month. Until then, customers needing to install the app can sideload it onto their Fire TVs.

Didn’t expect this, not surprised. I wonder how Silicondust will pivot to replace the revenue?

They are due to release tuners with built in storage, so that will help … I hope. I don’t think they available yet.

    That was quick

  3. Ted says:

Just use Emby or Plex; HomerunHD is great….

  4. Chris K says:

And nothing of value was lost.

Getting web-based access to cable channels has absolutely no relation to the reasons I bought an HDHomerun in the first place.

  5. Brian says:

It’s a shame this failed. Although the quality never quite made it. Picture too soft and chippy for me. But the option to record from streaming video was nice. Hopefully they can come back with a better source and picture quality.
