Sega releases 25 classic game bundle for $14.99 on Amazon Fire TV devices

Sega has just released a new SEGA Classics app for Amazon Fire TV devices that bundles together 25 classic Sega games for just $14.99. This collection of games is compatible with all Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Cube, and Fire TV Edition television models. While you’ll have a better experience using a game controller, all games are playable using the regular Fire TV remote.

The single app collection includes the following games:

  • Alien Storm
  • Altered Beast
  • Beyond Oasis
  • Bio-Hazard Battle
  • Bonanza Bros
  • Columns
  • Comix Zone
  • Decap Attack
  • Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  • Dynamite Headdy
  • ESWAT: City Under Siege
  • Gain Ground
  • Golden Axe
  • Golden Axe II
  • Golden Axe III
  • Gunstar Heroes
  • Ristar
  • Sonic CD
  • Sonic Spinball
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  • Street of Rage
  • Street of Rage II
  • Street of Rage III
  • The Revenge of Shinobi

Three of the classic Sonic games, which include Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic CD, are remastered, while the other 22 games are direct ports. Several games support local multiplayer, including Sonic 2, all three Golden Axe games, all three Streets of Rage games, and several more.

If you’re not using a game controller, the app has you use the Fire TV remote turned on its side as a controller. The circular directional buttons are used as a D-pad and the rewind/play/forward buttons are used as the A/B/C Sega Genesis buttons. You can also remap the buttons if you’d like.

The app allows you to select from a regular 4:3 stretched aspect ratio or a shrunken “pixel perfect” mode that uses 1:1 pixels for a crisper picture. You are also given the option to select from multiple borders to fill the unused space on your TV. Overall, it’s a very nice collection of games for a reasonable price.

If you’re planning to buy the app, remember that you can buy Amazon Coins to save some money. The SEGA Classics app costs 1,499 coins, so you can buy 2,500 coins for $22, which are worth $25 of actual spending power.

Elias, did you buy the game and have played it? Are these Genesis ports or the arcade versions? I really hope it’s the arcade versions. The Amazon description doesn’t distinguish this.

    • TheVoice says:

I would doubt they are the arcade version, Sega or whomever did this for them probably just licensed a cheap genesis emu. Regardless, some fun games in this group and if you are not side-loading on your Fire devices, this is a great little group. Gunstar, Dr Robotnik, Bonanza – I’m down.

What do you mean by, “probably just licensed a cheap genesis emu”? Are you saying that perhaps SEGA bought the license to a Genesis emulator for Android? That sounds odd to me.

What game controller do you recommend for the fire tv stick 4k

  3. Y2Bogus says:

Hard to jump on this when the Genesis collection on Xbox one can be had for 20 bucks and has 40+ games

Looks like a great CHristmas gift for my son! And he has the Fire TV 2 w/game controller package! He will be THRILLED with the Sonic games alone!

  5. Wildecard says:

I certainly could be wrong but I thought that I read a while back that the newer Fire TV’s discontinued support for the game controllers. Or am I thinking of something else?

    • OG Charlie says:

Just the official gen 2 Fire TV controller. You can still pair a bluetooth controller or do a usb controller depending on what gen 3 hardware you have.
