There has been a bit of news this week regarding original content from Amazon Video, so I thought I’d sum it up in one post. Starting off with news regarding existing shows, Amazon has announced that season 2 of Hand of God, which is set to debut next year, will be the final season of the show. The newest Amazon original to debut is One Mississippi, which premiered last Friday. The next new Amazon Original series to debut will be Fleabag, which premiers tomorrow, September 16th. Lastly, Woody Allen’s Crisis In Six Scenes, which premiers at the end of the month on the 30th, has just put out the show’s first trailer.

Moving onto future shows, Amazon will be making a documentary series about Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic, who is currently ranked number 1 in the world and has won 12 Grand Slam titles. As for new pilots, Richard Madden, of Game of Thrones fame, will be staring in a new sci-fi drama pilot for Amazon, based on the book The Book of Strange New Things. Madden plays a priest sent into space to help found a new colony but what he ends up discovering not only puts his faith to the test but life as we know it. Lastly, Rachel Brosnahan and Tony Shalhoub are set to star in a pilot drama The Marvelous Mrs. Maiselfor for Amazon. Brosnahan stars as a housewife in the 50s who becomes one of the first female standup comics after her husband leaves her for another woman.

I’d give about anything for another season of Alpha House. Pretty much anything outrageous that happened on that show seems minor compared to whats happening in the real world now.

What exactly does ‘Amazon Originals’ mean? I was under the impression that it meant programming comissioned and made by Amazon, but Fleabag is a comedy that was comissioned by the BBC, made by Two Brothers Productions, and has already aired in the UK.

I really hope they make a full season of The Book of Strange New Things. They make far too many comedies and for someone like me who hates comedies I get very little from Prime Video when it comes to original shows, apart from Mr Robot and Man in the High Castle.
