Fire TV 3 Rooting, Recovery, and ROM Guides

< Back to device selection

It is possible to root the Fire TV 3 using a method called FireFU, which you can learn about here. Not many people have rooted their device using this method because it requires using a microcontroller to enter a firmware upgrade mode by communicating over the HDMI connection. For this reason, there is no custom recovery or ROMs, so you’ll either need to re-root every time you update the device’s software, or stay on an older software version.

The good news is you do not need to be rooted to sideload apps like Kodi. Sideloading does NOT require rooting.
