Fire TV 2 Rooting, Recovery, and ROM Guide: KingRoot Method

< Back to Fire TV 2 Software Version Selection

The Fire TV 2 running software versions 5.2.1.0 and 5.2.1.1 can be rooted using a utility called KingRoot. Follow these steps to root, install TWRP custom recovery, and install the latest pre-rooted ROM:

  1. Root using KingRoot. Try using the latest version of KingRoot, but if that doesn’t work, then find version 4.9.6 or 5.0.1 because those definitely work.
  2. Install TWRP custom recovery using this guide.
  3. Install the latest pre-rooted ROM using this guide.

I have a Fire TV 2 with OS 5.2.1.1 (551203220). I’ve tried KingRoot v4.9.6, v5.0.1 and the newest version v.5.3.2 and KingORoot v.4.3.4. Every KingRoot version fails after the reboot. KingORoot gets stuck on 10% and shows unknown network error, regardless if the FTV is connected over WiFi or LAN. Has anybody tried to root recently and can help please?

Nevermind. It seems that KingORoot servers were down. Today it worked with KingORoot v.4.3.4 and KingRoot v.4.9.6 afterwards.

I know this is probably a dead thread, but does anyone know of a way to root FireTV ver2 on 5.2.1.1? Kingroot keeps failing. I am trying to update to latest update, but it won’t let me. I think I adb to it and turned OTA off a while back, since then removed root. I’ve reset to default and done factory reset, nothing works. Even tried loading MDK drivers on PC, that was a fail. I can’t get it to update & can’t seem to root to re-enable OTA. I’m at a loss. I’ve tried for over a year. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
