A software rooting method that affects devices with MediaTek processors has been discovered. This method has been verified to work on the Fire TV 2 running software version 5.2.6.8, so it should work on all older versions and likely newer versions. You can read about the method here.

I have a rooted fire tv 2nd gen running 5.2.4.1 and went to update with a new rom. I seem to have lost the TWRP boot screen and wondered if there is another way to flash the update, maybe via abd? It’s definitely still rooted, I did the recovery check and can acccess root / su via adb shell.

I found it was not showing the TWRP screen because I was passing the signal through an hdmi switcher. Plugged in directly to my av receiver and TWRP showed up. Just FYI for those that may have the same issue
I’m on 5.2.6.7 and want to unroot my ftv2. I enabled updates and did a factory wipe in TWRP, but still rooted. I tried reverting back to 5.0.4_r2, as per instructions, but it got stuck in a boot loop so I went back up to 5.2.6.7.
The revert to stock instructions are 2-3 years old, I think they may be out of date.
Any suggestions?
I’m on 5.2.7.3 on FTV2 and the temp root method isn’t working on it. Anyone else successful on rooting their FTV?
Any luck rooting your FTV? I have the same version as you and want a way to FTP into a USB key that’s plugged into the device. Unfortunately, I haven’t found a way to play files larger than 4gigs on the device. Even after I’ve split the movie up, the files just aren’t visible. I thought Rooting might work for me but like you, I haven’t found a method that works for FTV2 4K 2 Gen on 5.2.7.3.
Nope. The only way I’ve found is to do some delicate work as it touches on DAT0 + ground while running some code through the terminal. I haven’t tried it, but you can find it here:
