Get Roku Stick Deal

Roku is having a couple good Black Friday deals right now. First is the Roku Ultra for $49.99. This is for the new 2018 package that now comes with premium JBL headphones that you can use for private listening through the headphone jack on the remote. This is the lowest price I’ve ever seen for any Roku Ultra, which is their flagship device. Also on sale is the Roku Streaming Stick for $29.00. This is also the lowest price it has ever been. You might want to seriously consider going with the Roku Ultra instead, because the Stick is not a 4K device and is overdue for an update.

Tempted to try an Roku Ultra, since I want a device with a USB port that I can bring to my parents house. But literally every time I have bought a Roku in the past 2-3 years, I return or sell it on Ebay a day or two later. For so many years Roku was my main device, but I feel certain aspects of the GUI and how they operate has not aged well. I still don’t understand why with FTV, 2-3 apps seem to stay in memory, while with Roku every time you go to an app it seems like it was no longer in memory and has to completely reload.

Have you considered just packing an OTG cable with a Fire TV Stick for your visits to your parents? A Fire TV Stick 2 with an OTG cable and thumb drive is my go-to travel device.

I have not, but should probably look into. I normally have a fire stick as the device I leave there, but once in a while I wish there were a usb port.

And happy Thanksgiving to you and others in the US.

I thought the Ultra had only 1 GB ram so perhaps the reason to reload apps more often

It may have 1.5gb, but either way I have always suspected the same. The Roku devices are generally lower spec’d than other devices. So I assume they designed the OS to completely close an app as soon as you are done with it rather than allowing it to sit in memory.

With FTV I can usually bounce between prime, netflix, and youtube(either smart youtubetv or the browser) without them having to be constantly reloaded.

Same here, 3 main apps. Hoping the next Fire box has 3 GB. So far I’m happy with the 4k stick however. No real delay in switching apps
