I have a refurb Dot and other than the packaging, it is completely indistinguishable from a new Dot. Amazon refurbs also come with the same guarantee as a new one.
The Dot packaging doesn’t have the outer sleeve, in case anyone is wondering how the packaging is different. Just the box that is normally inside the sleeve.

That’s a rip off! These are refurbished and on sale for more money then there nonrefurbished go on sale for. I have never paid more then 29.99 for a new dot. They are on sale at Walmart, Target, bestbuy etc like ever other month! Just wait and pick a new one up!
The last time the Echo Dot was $29.99 was between Black Friday and New Years Eve in 2017 when Amazon was matching Google’s long Home Mini sale. The Echo Dot has not been less than $39.99 in 2018.
Even still $35/used vs $40/never used, it is a pretty easy choice to me. I am not opposed to purchasing used/refurbished electronics, but only if the price is far cheaper than purchasing it new. A $5 difference is not that significant in my book.
That’s not correct. They have been on sale in 2018 for that much, I got a dot as an Easter gift for my wife at target for 29.99 in March.
Also Best buy has a sale now if you buy two you get 40 off making them 29.99.
