Pre-Rooted 5.2.6.6 ROM is now available for the Fire TV 1 and Fire TV Stick 1

A pre-rooted 5.2.6.6 ROM for the Fire TV 2 was released a couple of weeks ago and now Rbox has released ROMs for the 1st generation Fire TV and the 1st generation Fire TV Stick. These ROMs will allow owners of rooted 1st-gen device to update to the latest software version without losing root access.

You can find the download links to these new ROMs at the top of the Fire TV 1 and Fire TV Stick 1 XDA Forum threads. Please be sure to donate to Rbox to support him and thank him for continuing to keep all of our rooted devices updated.

Use TWRP custom recovery, by following this guide, to install these ROMs on your rooted device. Fire TV Stick 1 owners may need to refer to this guide to be reminded how to get into and control TWRP using a PC.

As always, these ROMs cannot be used to root your device. Your device must already be rooted to install these ROMs. To see if your device’s software version is rootable and how to root it, see my guide here.

I installed this ROM on both my AFTV 1’s, everything seemed to go fine, but when I went to make sure updates were still blocked, ADB reported the devices as unauthorized. Everything I’ve found on the internet refers to a “revoke USB debugging authorizations”, which doesn’t apply here. I’ve disabled/re-enable ADB debugging and restarted, but same thing. Anyone encountered and solved this problem?

    it doesn’t work
how the hell do you get into TWRP?
i type adb devices, my device shows up , i type adb shell then i type mouse and all it does is say mouse not found, there is no way to get into TWRP , how do i get the mouse to work???

i keep on seeing people post about the same issue here and on XDA and every single post is ignored and never addressed, this is BS

I’ll do my best to help you if you’d like.
I assume you’re rooted and already have TWRP (and a previous ROM) installed on your AFTV, is that right?

      ok thank you
yes i am rooted and get the TWRP screen
i see that when it is in the recovery mode it is showing up as AOSP ARM device in device manager in windows 8.1 64 bit
i have tried the drives suggested in the XDA thread ,i already had the root junky tools installed from when i rooted my fire 7 tablets
      still does not working though
      maybe will try another machine
seem like a lot of people are having trouble with windows drivers

        1) So what ROM are you on right now?
        2) have you downloaded this latest ROM and md5sum and moved them to your AFTV? What directory are they in?

        • AR says:

          1) i am on stock 5.2.1.0 rooted with kingo root
          2) yes i have already pushed TWRP, the 5.2.6.6 pre rooted rom and the MD5checksum files to the stick so /sdcard/

the problem seem to be that the drives are not installed right

in device manager it shows as AOSP on ARM emulator when the TwRP boot screen appears

i see lots of people having this issue in the XDA thread
i have tried all of the drivers in the thread , but there is is one post about editing a driver i have not tried that yet

OK, so plug a USB keyboard into your AFTV (wired, wireless won’t work) then restart your AFTV. when TWRP screen comes up, hit right arrow key on keyboard to “launch recovery.”

Then use keyboard arrow keys to move the cursor over the “install” button and hit enter.

Still using the keyboard, go to /sdcard/ and select the ROM

DON’T check the “zip signature confirmation” box, just flash it and wait for it to install

oh i forgot to mention that this is a stick not a fire TV
i have a power plus OTG cable not sure if it will work i will try it though

but all my keyboards are ps2 so i will need to use aps2 to usb adapter

  5. Wayne says:

I only have the 1st gen box, but I assume the procedure is the same and since you’ve already rooted and installed a ROM via TWRP the PS2/adapter must work to control TWRP.

    • AR says:

nope it still does not work at all i tried with 3 different keyboards none of the buttons do anything i can not move the cursor to boot into recovery

  6. Wayne says:

Well to the best of my knowledge you’re dead in the water without a USB keyboard—although maybe a usb mouse might work. Amazon’s got a $14 one if you’re willing to gamble a bit. But to be honest, even though I rooted both my aftvs and install RBox’s roms just because I could/can, I’d be hard pressed to ID any real benefit to doing it—again, other than pride of ownership and sticking it to the man!

i know haha seems like everytime i ask for a practical example of how root would be useful nobody can site even one specific example for me
i know i have seen some tutorials on here for something i wanted to try that required root but i can’t even remember now
i really need this update though to see if i can get my wyze cam working on the stick (works on my 2nd gen stick with this update)
i already came this far i do not want to give and lose root
i assume you have fire tv devices not sticks, i think it is a lot different with the stick
nobody on XDA seems to be able to get the drivers to work either half of the people in the thread for TWRP on fire stick one can’t get the windows drivers working either
it’s really starting to piss me off now
