    Elias,
What can we do for you as a community to support the site?

What kind of things do you like to do?

    Thanks

If I leave Kodi and open the YouTube app on my Fire TV2, and then press play, sometimes it makes a file in Kodi start to play in the background. What the heck is going on?

    • Gareth Price says:

It is important to exit Kodi via the dedicated Exit Button, bottom left on the Kodi home screen (next to the Favourites Button), otherwise it will keep running in the background. As well as causing the problem you describe, it can also cause issues with the proper running of apps like Netflix

      • Gareth Price says:

Also, don’t use the Back Button to stop watching video in Kodi, call up the on screen display and stop the video first , then you can use the back button.

        • Jon says:

Why not use the back button, using the OSD just adds a bunch of unneeded button presses? Kodi has the back button mapped to stop when watching a video. It should work the same as using the OSD.

          • Gareth Price says:

Unless it has changed in the late release of Kodi, the back button simply takes you back to the previous screen, it does not stop the video playing.

I have a similar thing happening lately with my YouTube and sideloaded Google Play Music apps on my Fire TV 2nd gen box. I’ll be playing a YouTube video, hit a key command for the YT video on my Fire TV remote control, and it ends up starting music from the Google Play app (which wasn’t open or being used at that point).

Any word on Fire TV 3? I am assuming a spring released based on history.

  4. cdlenfert says:

I miss quickly double clicking the home button to get to the app I want. Since being on the 2nd Gen stick I now have to hold the home button, select “Apps” icon and then find the app I want to launch. Double click is still recognized (but only to tell me I can’t double click”. Any workarounds or hacks to restore double click app launcher?

    • Tony says:

I wish there was something like this too, but it last worked on fire os 5.0.5. The double press home button wasn’t possible with firestarter. For a favorite app I always make sure it appears in the list of recent apps I loaded up, by running it once a day.

  5. Ticky says:

Is there a release date for Amazons reboot of “The Tick” yet?

  6. Name Game says:

Does anyone have a working method for a gen 1 stick on a pre-rooted rom to install a functioning Play Store? I see many reports of play store apps not downloading.

  7. John says:

Fire TV gen 2 no longer supports Xbox 360 wireless controller. It looks like only supports Fire TV gen 1. If I root fire TV generation 2 box, will it support Xbox 360 wireless controller (with USB adapter)?

    • Jon says:

My FTV 2 box is working with the 360 controller. My box is rooted and I am using the previous rom, I havent yet updated to the newest pre rooted rom. I have downloaded the newest rom, and I keep meaning to update it just havnt gotten around to it yet. I’ll try to do the update sometime this weekend and let you know if anything changes with the latest.

    Two questions:

    1. Awhile back, you posted on how to sideload Google Play Music onto the Fire TV, which I did and worked great for a while. But lately, with recent Fire TV OS changes, the Google Music app seems to act a bit funky. Is there any kind of update on how to do the same kind of sideload with the latest Fire TV OS version?

    2. I had a Sony Bluetooth headset that I tried to pair with my Fire TV box 2nd gen, and it wouldn’t pair. So I got a newer, other brand Bluetooth headset, and same thing, wouldn’t pair at all. Checked online and found a lot of complaints about problems with Bluetooth pairing failures on Fire TV devices. Any suggestions for dealing with Bluetooth pairing failures? (PS-both of my Bluetooth headsets pair just fine with other devices I have at home).

    • cdlenfert says:

This sounds like a potential hardware issue (or interference from other devices). I’d make sure the headset isn’t paired to any other devices (forget the bluetooth device in settings) and then see if it will pair only with the Fire TV. Sometimes it’s difficult to make the initial pairing if something else is automatically connecting to your headset.

I have had a Gen 1 Stick, Gen 2 box, and Gen 2 Stick, and all of them paired with every bluetooth device I’ve tried without any real issue. That’s what makes me think it could be hardware, and you might be able to get Amazon to exchange your device.

I plan on updating my rooted firetv 2 from pre rooted ROM 5.0.5 to the latest pre rooted ROM by rbox. But what are all the main advantages of the new ROM vs the old ROM? Thanks again Elias for all great info!!

    Hi Elias;

When upgrading to Kodi 17 from version 14 – I kinda lost the ability of the Keyboard.xml to effect the remote so that the D-Pad would give me the Volume AMPLIFICATION Up/DWN with the Up & Down button & skip 30s fwd/rev with the right/left. I was able ti install an Add-On that allows the edit of this — which gave me the skip 30sec back – and the Up/DWN increases/Decreases the Volume but not the AMPLIFICATION as it did in the previous version. I noticed after using the app it seemed to create a gen.xml file in the keymaps folder ?? Can you provide help in getting this working again?

    Hey Big E!

I am wondering if the newest ftv os includes an app switcher like on the apple tv 4’s when you double press a button and all opened apps shows up then you can select which ones to use?

Another question I have is there a way to disable wifi on a ftv2 since I have it plugged in since I never use it but… I heard that the remote uses wifi though. If so wouldnt it be better for the remote to use bluetooth instead since there would be no random disconnects with the remote so hopefully the next gen ftv would have a bluetooth remote?

And third, do you agree with me that the Amazon app store has alot more apps selection than the play store? Btw how can I request an app to be made on either stores??

  12. Ralph M. says:

    Elias,

Did you try enabling the Plex Alexa skill? If so, did it work for you and do you need Plex pass for it to work properly?

    Ralph M.

  13. Ralph M. says:

    Hope you don’t mind me asking a 2nd question…

I noticed after I updated my Fire TV 2 Box to the latest OS last month or so that the wifi on the Fire TV 2 Box keeps dropping. At first I thought it was my router going wonky but realized later on that all my other wifi devices were getting a proper connection, no issues. Have you heard of any Wifi issues since the latest OS update and possible fixes for it? If my Fire TV is the issue, do you think Amazon would replace it since it has not yet been a year I purchased it? Thanks Elias.

  14. Raul Plaza says:

Are the Firetv sticks supposed to get the new interfase update?
I have 2 sticks and my friends ftvstick’s have not being updated yet.
Should i expect the update for this gen stick?
