I’ll be live streaming this week’s episode of the AFTVnewscast tomorrow at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Post your questions or topics in the comments below for me to answer and discuss during the episode. Anything goes for questions, whether it’s about the Fire TV, AFTVnews, or tech in general. Let’s hear them! Even if you can’t watch live, ask your question now and catch the episode on YouTube later.
My shield tv remote seems to have a week signal. It has a hard time navigating when across the living room. Have you noticed any lag or cutouts?
Would the alexa remote for firetv work with the shieldtv?
I’m currently running the latest pre-rooted rom for the fire tv 1st gen with a fully unlocked bootloader and twrp installed. Unfortunately, I’ve given up hope in seeing a full custom OS similar to CM or lineage os for the Fire tv. Is there any way to completely remove the Aftv launcher and replace it with the Andriod leanback launcher for a more stock android tv experience? If so, is that something you could create a guide for?
We can’t change the pig but putting a different lipstick on the pig is a ongoing project.
This is the thread for it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/project-aftv2atv-t3489239/
But I do hope Elias checks it out (To find out what works & what does not) & makes his own Tutorial for it.
+1
casually mentioned this in the thread.
Elias
Have you ever played with the raspberry pi?
Kodi, RetroPie or anything else?
Do you think this will be the year for the Amazon Alexa?
What do you think will be the next Big Thing?
Thank-you
Hi, i have a rooted AFTV-1 with a partial bootloader unlock and the latest of CWM recovery. Can i install the 5.2.1.2 rom?
Yes, but in steps. This is the first step:

Is there a setting somewhere that will stop ads for other shows playing before a show starts? I can hit the back button and the play button again to stop them, but this is very annoying.
Is there a way to contact the developer of appstarter or firestarter to optimise it for android tv? I think it is a GREAT app! But without the menu button on android tv remotes it loses functionality.
Please answer and discuss the issues that has been unanswered here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/fire-tv1-bricked-lights-t3545739
Call amazon they’ll probably replace it
This is an original firetv1 past warranty.
I’m a developer and, like you, have a whole bunch of Fire devices — 18 of them!
Two days ago all of my Fire TVs were suddenly unregistered, just like what happened a few months ago — back then, I think it was due to the new Fire TV UI rollout?
Have you heard any other reports of this issue?
I started re-registering my devices and remembered that you (or someone else) had called Customer Service and they were able to fix things last time.
So I called customer service tonight and the rep told me that a system failure was the cause of the problem… but he also said there was no way to fix this on their end and that I have to complete the registration on the device myself.
Seriously?!
The devices *arrived* registered, they *were* registered two days ago and clearly Amazon has all the information necessary to know that I have these devices and that they *should be* registered.
Should I try calling customer service again and see if a different person knows how to fix things?
I can’t be the only person to have this problem!
Thanks,
My ftv2 seems to randomly loose connection with the remote. Sometimes poping out the batteries and poping back in works and other times it doesnt. It only happens a handful of times but it annoying as hell.
Btw its on 5.0.2
I see that Kodi v17 has 64 bit support. Are there any Fire devices that use a 64 bit OS?
Elias, can you be so kind to share a link to the latest “KFTV Launcher.apk” from an FTV2 or FTVS2 on the latest FW v5.2.4.0 for us that don’t have access to a Gen 2 FTV device. TY
Have asked for it here in the comments & @ XDA but no one has shared it yet, TY.
@Elias , Thanks for the response. I can’t believe I had forgotten about the ROM inner files.
Were you able to get the file?
No, Still need it. The APK’s come in .DAT file in the update image & PreRooted ROM’s so I can not access them. Still need someone to post a link for it.
I asked you on twitter about benchmark testing.
you mentioned GFXBench. I guess I am asking does it work on ftv or not?
having trouble finding a tester thats compatible.

Hi Elias,
I have a Cheap Android chinese box (MX-V) which allows 4k 60hz in resolution options. Any chance the FireTV 2 can manually select an option like this. I wonder why Amazon had the Firetv 2 locked down to 4k 30hz instead of 60hz.
If we access Hidden Resolution Options on the Fire TV was it discovered here that it only goes to 30hz instead of 60hz?
That’s really too bad, since it seems like it would have been possible for Firetv 2 to do 4k 60hz.
PS: Have fun watching the Superbowl! Go Falcons!:)
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-fix-sdcard-access-issues-on-a-rooted-amazon-fire-tv/
After running this patch zip I try to run the “ls -al /sdcard” command in SU Mode thru ADB but I still get the exact same response as if ran it on the regular non SU Mode. Like in your before picture.
I did make sure I am still rooted & my boot-loader is still fully unlocked. Which they are. Tried re-flashing the Pre-Rooted Rom too.
I thought this fix would help with the ES File Explorer “Sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on your device” problem. But it did not help with that either. Do you have any ideas as to what to try to remedy this problem. TY
All of the above was for a FTV1 Fully Unlocked Boot-loader on PreRooted v5.2.1.1_r1. Plan to test the same on the latest PreRooted FW 5.2.1.2_r1 this weekend.

since it seems the new forums are on hold. is there a chance that you could add a new posts button to your existing site?
Any idea if or when FTV will support a USB TV Tuner? Will they support using the sd card slot to record to?
Is there an official build of Kodi with the necessary changes for it to act as a launcher on android?
SPMC has a version that will act as a launcher. If you dont know SPMC is Kodi more or less, mostly just an old dev with a new name. You have to have root access and I believe an Xposed module. I cant remember exactly about the Xposed module, but it does work, I have SPMC as my launcher on my FTV.
Kodi can be made to act as a launcher, but it dosnt come that way. There is an app in the play store to make it act as a launcher. Like I said though, no difference between Kodi and SPMC besides SPMC has a real developer.
