Any word on how the new Fire TV Stick is able to display interlaced video? I know Fire TV devices can run the Android version of HDHomeRun software and work with that company’s tuners to view live TV. I’ve read that the original Fire TV Stick could properly display 1080i video but that other models, such as the current Fire TV box, cannot (which is odd given that it’s more powerful).

And while on the subject of live TV, do you know of any USB-based OTA (ATSC) tuners that work with any Fire TV device? I’m guessing that drivers don’t exist and therefore none will work, but thought I’d ask.

Any news on Alexa rolling out to Fire TV/Tablets in the UK?

  3. Wrecks says:

If you use the display calibration function to adjust the FireTV output for your television, is it working harder (to remap the image) than it would be to leave it uncalibrated?

  4. Andy says:

Im holding out for a Fire TV 3, any news on that would be cool. Also 3rd party apps on the new OS – specifically Kodi – and if they work lol.

  5. Master Blaster '96 says:

Does the new Fire TV stick only allow private listening using Bluetooth or does the audio port in the Fire TV wireless controller work?

  6. FTV Paul says:

What is the reason for the FireTV Sticks asking users to register their devices again? This started today as far as I know. Was there a new update? Sometimes when signing in to your Amazon account, you get a notification saying “can not connect to servers” (something like that).

    • TROJAN4VR says:

Yes…had a first gen fire tv “deregister”…..and had to register again…wifi settings were still saved as well as side-loaded apps

    • Jessie says:

I’ve seen random reports of this on Twitter, but not many details. What countries are affected? Which Sticks (only originals, or also the brand new version that just launched)? Is it only happening to Sticks with sideloaded apps like Kodi? Is it happening on the Fire TV boxes as well? Etc., etc.

FWIW, I have two Sticks, an original and a FTVS 2, neither running any sideloaded apps, US, have not been logged out of either or prompted to sign in again.

  7. FTV Paul says:

What is the status of the new aftv UI? I thought it was supposed to ship with the new 2016 FTV sticks.

  8. Scott says:

Does the Fire TV stick 2 support Ext4 file system via USB OTG? You mentioned in a post that it supported fat32 and you were unsure / doubtful about NTFS.

  9. Mister X says:

Will Alexa be on the 2014 Fire HD 6? it should be because it has the same specs as the the Fire HD 8 (2015)

Hi i have a firetv gen.1. Now the new music app that just recently came out tends to play music when i hit the play/pause button on the remote when im in any video app or a movie/show on amazon prime. Is there any solution so that the music app will only run when im use the music app and not any other app? Thanks usually a YouTube watcher. Keep up the hard work love your show.

    • Jessie says:

I had this problem two weeks ago ( original FireTV Stick) and found that if I pressed the Dpad to select or resume video playback, music didn’t begin playing. Called Amazon Customer Service and the first rep had me clear the data and cache from the music app and the video app I had been using, which temporarily solved the problem. Called a second time when issue returned and rep had me do a factory reset, which again only temporarily solved the problem but then even pressing play on the Home page resulted in music playing.

I have not had the issue on the FireStick 2. Using the DPad instead of the Pay/Pause button is the only fix I’ve found for the original Sticks.

    Hi,

Great shows as always. I have a question about using an AFTV V1. Do you know of any media servers that can run on the box to provide transcoding. My NAS is not powerful enough to transcode and I thought the AFTV1 might be able to be an efficient transcoder and not use too much power.

    Thanks

    Mike

If as suspected, there appears to be no Fire TV 3 in the near future, what is the best option for a hardware upgrade from the Fire TV 2?
How does the Mi box, Roku Ultra or any other Android boxes compare in terms of performance to the current 2nd Gen Fire TV?

Also, can photos for screensavers (Amazon Photos for example) be stored on the micro SD card on a Fire TV 2 to free up internal storage space?

    Cheers

  13. Gyges says:

How does Kodi on AFTV compare to SPMC?
By now the only user-noticable difference I could find is that pressing the back key stops playback with SPMC (which is a priceless feature for quickly browsing a long list of videos).
Would be quite interesting to see a list of features that are only available with SPMC.

  14. Cliff says:

Is there a good way to add Chromecast receiver support to a rooted AFTV. Specifically Google’s version. Not Allcast or AirPlay, which I know can be done.

  15. Munkie says:

    Hi Elias,

Please could I have your advise regarding amending the Fire TV build.prop (build properties)

I would like to spoof my rooted Fire TV 1 using this method but I understand that bricking the device is a strong possibility.
having said that however would you say recovery is possible/guaranteed by making a backup of the build.prop and using TWRP or ADB in the event of a boot loop?

  16. Damien says:

When are you going to stop playing with toys and start the aftv forums?

  17. AFTVUser says:

Apparently, on the Fire TV1 (and, perhaps on others), even when an app itself is moved to external storage, the cache for that app is still stored internally. I just spent about twenty minutes clearing the individual caches from about a dozen apps, resulting in the recovery of nearly a gigabyte of internal storage space. The question is, in the interest of time-savings, is their any way to clear the cache of multiple (or all) apps globally?

Any chance of adding a countdown timer to your newscast posts so it’s easy to determine when you will be broadcasting?

Either this one is late, or I have missed it.
    I’m not quite sure

So I got the new 2nd generation fire stick with Alexa voice remote. The 1st one I got had remote control issues so a 2nd one was sent out to me & still having remote control issues but something strange happened to the main Amazon page. Of course I rooted both of them & for 1 day all was good & then on the 2nd day ‘Music’ shows up at the bottom on the main Amazon page where Settings always appears. ‘Settings’ is now 2nd to the last. I also lost 50MB of Free Memory on my Kodi both times & I didn’t make any changes to Kodi. Has this happened to anyone else?

    • Jessie says:

Yes, the new Music app defaults to the bottom of the menu. Can’t answer the Kodi question, but what you saw with Music is normal. It was in the normal position when setting up the Stick and a few hours later, it was at the bottom and has remained there.
