I’ll be live streaming this week’s episode of the AFTVnewscast, at this link here, tomorrow at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Post your questions or topics in the comments below for me to answer and discuss during the episode. Anything goes for questions, whether it’s about the Fire TV, AFTVnews, or tech in general. Let’s hear them! Even if you can’t watch live, ask your question now and catch the episode on YouTube later.
Xfinity new TV App does not open / work with Amazon Fire TV. I know Xfinity TV Go works but appears the new app is the replacement. Any ideas? Thank You
I have been using the new Xfinity TV App on multiple Fire TVs for about a month now. The last version that works correctly is 3.1.1.019.
The newer versions of the App appear to crash when it calls for an external browser to complete the Comcast sign in process. Even installing a browser on the Fire TV does not work.
Version 3.1.1.019 of the app will crash occasionally while browsing through the on demand menus, but not too often. I believe it is stable enough for daily use.
The 1st gen Fire TV has some frame rate issues with video playback, but the 2nd gen Fire TV video playback is smooth.
The new app is much better then the TV TO GO app.
Mike
Thanks Mike for the information. I also use xfinity tv go app, but never knew about the other working version. I tried later versions and had problems like Berto Avalos mentioned.
I googled for xfinity tv 3.1.1.019 apk & found it on a site called apksdownload.com. I’ll try it now.:)
Thanks Mike and Tony. Downloaded the version that Tony suggested and it WORKS!!!
What is the difference between Xfinity Go app vs XfinityTV app?
The TV GO App does some live cable channels and on demand content. The video quality seems lower to me then the new TV App. Comcast is discontinuing the TV GO app.
The new TV App streams all the previous TV GO content as well as any live streaming of channels you subscribe to, including local channels. The video quality seems better. It will play your DVR recordings, but I have not tested that. It is nearly a cable box.
Both Apps have some playback restrictions when not on your Comcast internet connection.
No issues on this end. I just downloaded and installed the latest com.xfinity.dvr APK. I used a buddy’s creds and signed in successfully.
1. U need a keyboard
2. I am rooted
3. I have Playstore installed
I just tried the latest version 3.9.0.036 and it will not even launch.
Maybe you can help us get the newer version running. Can you tell us what version of the TV app you are running from the settings-about menu? What OS version is your Fire TV? Do you have any external browsers installed for the initial sign in?
The play store may have something to do with it, I have an older version of the play store installed. If I get some time I will try a new version of the play store.
I have the same issue on rooted and not rooted Fire TVs, most are OS version 5.2.1.0.
OS 5.2.1.1
App 3.9 (Dont recall the rest of the digits)
ADB Debugging off
Hi there,
Recently stumbled onto your site, just got an Echo here in the U.K. And started a home-auto project using Alexa, Harmony, Wemo and Yonomi.
Currently rely on a Roku 3 for my viewing, considering moving over to FTV box… just wondering what your thoughts are on the likelihood of being able to control the FTV using the Echo in the future i.e. “Alexa open Netflix and play Narcos on my tv”
With Echo Spatial Perception pending it would make sense that you’d be able shout an order out to in your smart home and Alexa will figure out what devices you’re directing them at.
Anyway thanks in advance!
Since the new stick is out, I’m interested in upgrading from my gen 1 stick. I’ve read some info online with recommendations on how to deregister, clear caches and app data, etc. Your guides are always very thorough and trustworthy. What are the chances you’d do a “How to prepare your rooted Fire TV (Stick) to be sold” guide?
Thanks, and for the love of all things holy, keep on rockin’ in the free world.
Can you use Alexa remote for the first gen Fire TV stick? If so, where can I get the remote seperately?
Hi Elias,
My aftv 1 is rooted with rbox’s 5.0.5.1 R pre rooted rom. For some reason ever since it has been rooted it reboots periodically when it is sitting idle. Sometimes it will reboot while it is sleeping. The aftv will reboot normally or allow me to enter twrp (if the display is on of course). It never reboots while i am streaming on it so it’s just more of a weird quirk and am wondering if you have ever experienced this?
I asked a question a couple weeks ago about xposed and how I installed it and the google play store on my rooted aftv which keeps kicking me out of the search function. I know you mentioned a while ago that you will edit out questions that you don’t have answers to, but is this something you will ever explore? No worries if you cut out this part of my question…I will get the point ;)
Have a great day and a Happy Canadian Thanksgiving week end!
Regards,
Eric
…same here. Fire Tv 2 with prerooted 5.0.5 randomly reboots while idle. Maybe its an issue with rbox roms?
Hello Elias, I tried downloading the software updates before 5.2.1.1 and the file doesn’t seem to open do I have to download it on my fire stick or do I have to use adbfire?
What do you use to dis the code you intercept from Amazon?
I am very interested in that type of thing.
How can I watch my new Fire TV stick in France?
