I’ll be live streaming this week’s episode of the AFTVnewscast, at this link here, tomorrow at THE NEW TIME OF 11am PT. Post your questions or topics in the comments below for me to answer and discuss during the episode. Anything goes for questions, whether it’s about the Fire TV, AFTVnews, or tech in general. Let’s hear them! Even if you can’t watch live, ask your question now and catch the episode on YouTube later.
The CW app was available for FTV’s briefly, then apparently removed. Currently shows as available only for my phone and tablet. All of my actual FTV’s show the big “not compatible” red “X.” Any idea what gives here?
And speaking of apps that were pulled, any idea if/when the Epix app will be back?
All of the competitors in this space have a device over $100. Do you think Amazon’s strategy is to be the value or price leader? Do you think they will ever have a device that is more than $100? I would gladly pay that if there were no compromises with the device.
Do you foresee any issues in loading Kodi on FS2 ? Do you think there will be any half-price deductions like last year…even with the $10.00 movie coupons ? Keep on producing your excellent content, its greatly appreciated. btw, its hard sometimes to see the difference between 4k and 1080p on some hdtv/uhdtv …
I wondered how the stats compare between the latest versions of new FTV Stick and the latest Roku Stick ?
Can Kodi be sideloaded on to the new fire stick 2? Is Amazon doing something to end sideloading all together on the fire stick 2 cause you know Amazon can do changes with their devices?
Thanks for all the videos you made since 2014! I found it very helpful to everyone!
Anyone else having problem streaming Thursday night football via the Twitter app? I am experiencing audio sync issues, constant buffering, pixelation… I switched my Fire Tv 2 to a PoE connection with the same result. The fire Tv diagnostic tool (System X-ray) shows that Twitter is downloading at a rate of 12.9mb on avg, but video is terrible. I am on a 300 / 50 connection and rarely have issues.
Every time I would click on the live broadcast tile, it would crash the app. Not just you having issues. They had a good first week release, now I think they have a lot more traffic and are having a hard time adjusting to it. Probably will be worked out soon.
I have a FireTV 1 and blocked updates starting at 5.0.5.1 (via the ADB method). Was hoping to be able to root just for kicks. no particular reason otherwise (maybe add firestarter back in). Since the FTV1 is not rootable so far at this OS or later, is it worth keeping updates blocked or just re-enable and get the latest. I probably don’t need root but would like the option to know it is available. Thanks for the great site and podcast.
You wrote:
“Interestingly, ethernet connectivity is listed as “optional” so it seems the new Fire TV Stick may support OTG cables and USB-to-Ethernet adapters out of the box without needing to root the deivce.”
Could this be optional because of of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#HEC ? I think this could be the reason.
Another question is about the FireTV bluetooth voice remote.
I can not pair my AFTV1-Voice bluetooth remote with my nVidia Shield TV and I dont know why!
I am running FW 352 on my remote, what did you think about this here:
” I’m pretty sure amazon blocked the Fire TV’s remote from being paired with devices not from amazon. When it was first released it would pair, but after OS updates (which include remote firmware updates as well), I can’t get mine to pair with anything but the Fire TV anymore.”
I think so too…

Hi Elias,
I’ve never owned a firetv stick before, since I’ve always wanted easy access to a usb keyboard and mouse.
-Are only Bluetooth mouse/keyboards possible to connect to a Firetv stick?
-And with the new Firetv stick 2, if there is OTG cable support, will it now be possible to connect usb wireless mouse/keyboards (instead of just Bluetooth)?
Hey Elias,
The site and the broadcasts are awesome. Keep up the good work!
I have noticed in the last few weeks a big reduction in video quality coming from the AFTV 2 box for Amazon content. Now dark scenes become almost unwatchable with a huge amount of solarization. The content itself is fine because if I watch it through the TV’s own app, it’s much better. Any idea what has changed with the box?
Here’s some pics to explain:
Through AFTV2:

Through the TV direct (internal Amazon app):

Any clue what’s happening? It’s getting to the point where I can’t watch video through the AFTV box anymore.
Thanks!
Thought I’d better also mention that it’s nothing to do with the inputs to the TV. I tried with a Roku 4 and it’s much better than the AFTV2 so not a HDMI problem.
It also looks fine on iPad, so it really seems linked to the box.
Any update on when then fire TV 3rd gen box is going to be released? Getting impatient!
Thx!
I would love to know this too. As well as any rumors about upcoming Amazon tablets.
Echo has been released in the UK. The Alexa app is now available to download in the UK.
When will the Fire TV in the UK have Alexa?
Found the answer – sorry for wasting your time.

Will Echo be Integrated with Fire TV to offer app launch and navigation control?
