I can’t find a Karaoke app for the FireTV that works. Anybody know of an Android Karaoke app that I can sideload which also works well with a remote?

  2. Robert says:

The 5.2.1.0 update has a bug that inhibits multi channel digital audio pass through. My experience is with optical out on a Gen 1 box, but other users have reported the same issue with HDMI. The problem can be temporarily resolved by clearing video data in the Amazon video app; however, sound returns to 2.0 stereo when selecting other shows or movies. Any idea how we can fix this on our end?

so does this bug apply to the stick as well?or only for fire tv 1 and 2
i just bought a new stick and a new surround sound receiver
i am now trying to get the surround sound output fromt he stick to the receiver, i was not having any luck
but i heard that kodi jarvis also has an issue with surround sound passthrough as well
i was only getting PCM 2.0 channel but then i changed a setting in fire os audio through HDMI from auto to dolby digital and now my receiver reads 5 channel instead of 2 but there is still no dolby just PCM

This specific DD5.1/DD5.1+ issue affects Fire TV 1 and 2, but not Fire TV stick. It is limited to Amazon programming, not Netflix or Kodi. Short Kodi tutorial: enable last four buttons in audio settings.

    1. Is there a way to unlock the Fire TV 2 bootloader? If not, is it being worked on?
    2. How can you open the SU gui on a rooted Fire TV?
    3. Can you downgrade from a rooted AFTV 2 running 5.2.1.0 to 5.0.5 from TWRP?

Two weeks ago I asked you about why the sideloaded apps (ie: Uktv Now and Perfect Player) don’t appear in the Recent or Apps section, you suggested that I always launch directly from amazon launcher instead of FireStarter, so I’ve been launching from default launcher for over a week now and it still does not appear. Any ideas why?

  5. Philip says:

Is there a guide to properly use Alexa? Normal things like whats the weather or what is the population in a specific country works well, but 80% of wikipedia stuff i ask i am not getting an answer?

  6. Eduardo says:

It seems that Kodi has disappeared again from the start menus of Fire TV.
Since FireStarter does not do what it used to do, what can I do to easily access Kodi?
(I don’t want to root the device or having to go to Preferences > System > Manage Installed Applications all the time.)

  7. Sam says:

Do you know when the Sideclick remote will be back in stock on Amazon? Do you know if the Piggyback remote you wrote about will be made for the voice remote?

  8. Tim says:

I bough a first generation AFTV just before the AFTV 2 come out.

Now I’m planning to buy AFTV 2.

Is it a good time to buy AFTV 2 ? or shall I wait a few more months for AFTV 3 ?

    • Ilya S says:

Definitely wait if you can. In the case that AFTV 3 is somehow disappointing or lacking in features (unlikely) you’ll still be able to pick up an AFTV 2 for cheaper.

      • Mark says:

That AFTV 2 will need to come from amazon for a cheaper price.

People tend to hog things and then jack the price up later.

Look at the first generation apple tv and all the knuckleheads that think they are worth $200 and up on ebay because the box is unopened. The damn thing can’t even play HD content.

Prices don’t go down that’s for sure. People these days think everything they have for sale is worth its weight in gold.

  9. Sally says:

Does the “latest app deals” list on your site include all fire tv app price changes?

  10. Tony says:

I plan to pick up a new Fire tv v2(2015) model on sale for $85 today or tomorrow.
-Is there a recommended place to buy a rootable FTV2 (having 5.0.5.1 or earlier)?I plan to buy it directly from Amazon site.
-Or is there is no way knowing in advance (until we boot it up at home after buying it)?

(If anyone who bought one this week knows please let me know, thanks!)

    • Tony says:

Basically, Is it still possible to buy a rootable ftv2 at all the different stores selling Firetv?

      • Tony says:

Thanks Elias for all the advice you have. Just letting you know I received my new FTV2 directly from AMAZON.com (this 3rd week of June)and it came with FireOS 5.0.4, so it is true that Amazon is still shipping devices with rootable firmware.

I successfully blocked updates with blocking methods 3,4,and 2 and will attempt root, twrp,&rbox rom later this weekend!

  11. Ilya S says:

Somewhat unrelated to FTV so feel free to ignore.

Do you personally use any kind of NAS? What is your setup?

I’ve been doing some light research as this is something I want to do sometime this year most likely.
