The android app Anymote, allows you to control your firetv via your echo or the app. When it works, it works well. I can play or pause what I’m watching, arrow through the home screen and select a new show, etc. It often doesn’t connect and I havnt figured out the trick to get it working perfectly…
Now to my question, if this app can simulate remote button presses sent to the fire TV’s IP address at port 5555, can. How can we do this manually using an app like tasker using ifttt. I want to send a web request to simulate button presses. I know how to use tasked and ifttt, I just don’t know what commands to send to the firetv.
Since the 5.0.5.1 Update the play/pause media button on my Amazon (bluetooth) game controller no longer pauses or resumes music play. It works fine for video play. Previous to the 5.0.5.1 update it worked fine for both music and video pausing.
Is that why they removed those buttons from the newer (wifi) game controllers?
It may have something to do with running old firmware, but I have no choice if I want to have root on first gen.
Apps are starting to no longer work on rooted first gens. First it was the NCAA app. Now the Hulu app won’t work. What’s next???
I’d also love to know if there is a solution for Hulu on a 1st Gen rooted AFTV.
Can the new opera browser(developer) with vpn be used with firetv
Looking at a thread on XDA discussing Hulu not working on rooted Fire TV devices, has me pretty concerned. That’s a pretty major cord cutter app. The issue was with not being able to navigate and select content. Seems very odd. Can you share any insight?
Can you publish a How-To-article on using various emulators such as SNES9x, Retroarch and using Gamesome for the Fire TV? I would like to see more coverage on emulators and how to optimize them for the Fire TV. I think that a lot people would be interested in which one works the best to the box. This category seems overlooked often.
Can we run the aftv as samba server if yes how?
I would like to see a tutorial on how to change key layouts on devices like the xiomi game pad and mele f10 deluxe air remote so that they can fully work on a fire tv. Xiomi gamepad does work, but bottom right trigger does not so many games you cannot play. How do you determine on these devices what the key layout is, and what it should be so that you can change the kl file on a rooted device.

Recently I upgraded my AV receiver to a Denon X2200 and connected my Fire 1st gen (5.0.5.1) via HDMI. However I could not get Kodi to pass through any multi channel sound via HDMI, just got hiss. It passed multi channel sound ok from a Amazon movie but not from Kodi. Tried all versions of Kodi and a factory reset. In the end I had to connect the sound via optical cable which worked fine.
Any ideas why? Is it a general problem with the first gen Fire TV or with Kodi?

Did you go into audio settings on kodi?
– When will Amazon add ‘past searches’ to the Search screen. It’s such a basic common-sense and very useful feature.
– Is Amazon ever going to integrated voice search within Apps. It’s such a shame that Amazon has not pushed this technology to its limits within the device ecosystem.
– will Amazon work with developers and guide them to use a uniform keyboard API that is easy and quick to navigate with the remote … And works with a wireless keyboard (i.e. Only handful of apps allow you to type searches on wireless keyboard)
– Amazon recommends movies based on movies I wasted 2 hours on. Why can’t they integrate a thumbs up/ down into the box and offer a smarter ‘Recommend’ feature. This technology of learning and customizing has been around for a long time. Even some news apps on Fire TV do that.
– Amazon needs to clean up the GUI and make it consistent – when I go to Your Watchlist, I have no idea what to expect … the row category, headers and content change periodically. It’s such a mess!

Do you know how the “low battery ” warning works for the remote? Is it the same with Bluetooth and wifi remotes? Anyway to disable the warning as I find the remote works for weeks (or longer) after the warning.
I’m pretty sure you posted a how-to on changing the kodi icon to a higher resolution since the side loaded app icons are low resolution. I’ve searched your site and google and can’t find the article I read. Any chance some one could pass me a link to it? Thanks.
