Plex is asking all users to reset their passwords and sign out all active devices due to a data breach the company experienced. Plex says that “a third-party was able to access a limited subset of data that includes emails, usernames, and encrypted passwords” from one of its databases. The passwords that were accessed were “hashed and secured in accordance with best practices,” which means they were not in plain text. That said, you should definitely change your Plex password immediately. If the password you use for your Plex account is the same one you use for any other account, you should definitely change it for those other accounts as well and consider using unique passwords for all accounts for this very reason. Plex passwords can be reset here and Plex recommends checking the box that says “Sign out connected devices after password change” which will require you to sign back in on all of your devices.
Hello, What if I didn’t use an email with Plex, I don’t think. I think the app downloaded from my Prime account. If that’s the case do I need to change my password for my Prime/Amazon account?
Thanks for your help!
If you’re using Plex to just stream its ad-supported content without an account, then there is nothing you need to do. You do not need to change your Amazon account password.
Thank you!!
