Philo’s $16 streaming TV service is coming to Fire TV devices this summer

Philo is one of the newest streaming internet TV providers that has been growing in popularity thanks to its inexpensive $16 bundle that gives you access to 37 channels. Philo CEO Andrew McCollum has told CNET that the service, which is currently only available through Rokus and iOS devices, will be coming to Amazon Fire TV devices this summer. Additionally, around the same time, Philo will be adding TV Everywhere access so that Philo subscribers will be able to unlock TV network apps included in their lineup.

Philo has been called the online TV service for non-sports fans because their channel lineup does not include major sports networks, like ESPN or Fox Sports, and doesn’t include major broadcast channels, like ABC, NBC, FOX, or CBS. Instead, their base package of 37 channels for $16 per month includes networks like AMC, Discovery, HGTV, MTV, Nick, and many others. Philo also offers a $20 per month package that includes 46 channels, which adds Cooking Channel, Discovery Life, and others.

Around the same time that Philo releases a Fire TV app, they’ll also be available on the Apple TV and Android mobile devices. That’s also when they’ll open support for network app activations. That means that, if you don’t want to use the Philo app, you’ll be able to use all the individual TV network apps instead, which are all already available on Fire TV devices today.

Discovery, History and HGTV best streaming service for the price, to date.

  2. Thom says:

Needs Turner and FX I’d be all over it.

  3. hdmkv says:

No network channels (ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC) unfortunately.

  4. Jim says:

I’m still rocking the 120+ on Directv Now.

  5. Dan Dutra says:

This is a great supplement to my current Hulu live. I like Philo mostly for the Viacom stuff that it otherwise missing from Hulu and others. 16 bucks for 3 streams and my missing channels.

  6. Mike Blakeslee says:

That’s awesome to hear! I mean I’ve already been rocking Philo on my AFTV since they began. I’ve been using the Silk Browser and it’s been pretty stable. Don’t get me wrong, it’ll be awesome to use an actual app for it like I do w/my Roku if I get frustrated w/streaming it thru Silk.

  7. JorgeM says:

When they say “Coming to Amazon Fire TV devices”, do they really mean that’s it’s coming to Android TV devices?

Does this work in other countries?

  8. Frank says:

Trying the service out now. American Heros Channel is a favorite of mine, but that required the upgraded package at $20.00. Between this and free Pluto I’ve got a pretty good selection.
