Philo TV will be raising its monthly subscription price from $20 to $25 on June 8, according to Deadline. Existing subscribers or those who subscribe by June 8 will be grandfathered in at the lower rate for as long as they keep their subscription active. So, if you had any inclination in subscribing, now is the time to do it before the price goes up. Philo is easily one of the best deals in streaming TV. They offer 63 channels for that $20/month price. Philo launched their streaming cable service 4 years ago and this is the first time they’ve ever incrased their price, although it did once have a $16/month plan with few channels that it dropped.
I had the $16 a month plan but cancelled. Live PD and the few shows I watched were removed. What was left was pretty terrible.
I love Philo. I don’t watch sports so it essentially has everything I want – all non-sports channels. The price can’t be beat, even with this tiny price increase. Also, on their blog, they say the new price will include an upgrade to a 12 month DVR – as good as YT TV except Philo has more of my favorite channels (Hallmark, Science, HGTV, AMC, AHC, Discovery etc.). Prior to Discovery+ coming out, this was essentially how I watched these channels since YT TV didnt have these at all (now they have a few of the Discovery channels)
Should also note that the new plan will have 1 year retention of DVR’ed shows vs current 90 days.
If you Keep or quickly get the 90 day plan you keep the 90 day DVR.
And if you are on the $20 / 90 day DVR plan you can add on the 1 yr. DVR for $5/mo. and can drop it later if you decide to discontinue it.
The current DVR/SAVE plan is 30 days, not 90. I wish it was 90 days. I would be less tempted to upgrade to the new 1-year DVR/SAVE window. The article noted that you have until June 8th to lock in the $20/month and 30-day DVR/SAVE pricing.
30 days currently, Correct, my mistake.
No problem. I wish it was 90 days!! :-)
