Amazon has started rolling out the new Fire TV interface to Fire TV Smart TVs and Fire TV Smart Soundbars. The new interface first rolled out to 2020 Fire TV Sticks late last year. Then, in March of this year, the interface arrived on Fire TV Cubes, the Fire TV Stick 4K, and other models. Now TVs and Soundbars running the Fire TV operating system are next up for the interface update.
Amazon has said in the past that all Fire TV Smart TV and Soundbar models, regardless of model year or manufacturer, will be receiving the new interface. I don’t know if the update is starting to roll out to all devices at once or if some will get it before others. Either way, now that TVs and soundbars are starting to get the update, it shouldn’t be long before it’s available on all models.
That leaves only the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick as the only device left waiting for the new interface, since the 1st-gen Fire TV, 1st-gen Fire TV Stick, and 2nd-gen Fire TV will never receive the new interface. Given that the 2nd-gen Fire TV Stick is the most popular model, it makes sense that Amazon is being the most cautious with it and leaving it last. It is also the least powerful model to be receiving the interface update, so there is likely more to do to ensure the new interface performs well on the device.
Will this fix the issue with my new 55” Toshiba 4K Fire Edition TV displaying everything in interlaced scanning mode? The content whether be from Netflix, YouTube or Prime Video is almost always 1080p or 2160p but when I go check info it shows everything is being converted to either 1080i or 2160i. I believe this is what’s causing the video to jump/flip a frame ever so often. Unfortunately I can not find a way to change this setting and Toshiba support is absolutely abysmal.

I wish I read this in-depth review on rtings before buying the TV on Prime Day, under ‘Apps and Features’ it identifies the issue I and many others have experienced. Here’s an excerpt;
“Amazon’s Fire TV app store has a large selection of streaming services and apps for download. The TV can play content directly from a USB thumb drive, but just like native apps such as Netflix and YouTube, it uses interlaced scanning instead of a progressive scan. This can result in some motion artifacts known as ‘combing’ in fast-moving scenes.”
They also identify an issue called ‘judder’ that might be resolved with an update and to be honest idk what the right term is for the issue I/we have. it almost looks like back in the day with CRTs when the scanning line interval was off but just for a single frame out of roughly 200 – 400 frames.
I’m happy to report that after receiving the latest update this morning our Toshiba 4K is displaying all content in true Progressive mode and the glitch/jump issue seems to have been resolved as well. We even managed to get 2178P oddly enough. Haven’t got the update that supports Airplay yet but watching content in true Progressive mode is a huge plus! Thank you for all the great info!

Amazon completely ruined the interface. There was nothing wrong with the way it was for which was simple into the point. Now you have to go to a different screen to see your application. Most stupid thing EVER. Thanks Amazon for screwing it up
