Just released is a new app, appropriatly named Clock, which adds the date and time to the upper right corner of the Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick’s interface. It’s such a simple omission by Amazon, but I’ve found myself looking for the time on the Fire TV screen on several occasions, only to remember it is not part of the interface. The app automatically launches itself on boot so that the date and time is always present. One major flaw which will hopefully be changed in a future update, is that the date and time is always present, even when in an app or watching a video.
That is indeed a major flaw… no thanks.
Let us know when that issue is fixed for sure. Does not make sense to pay for an app that does not work properly. Thanks for the heads up on this and hopefully they can fix it.
Ouch! I wish I had read this review before buying this app. I saw it listed, figured it was a piece of basic functionality that the Fire should have, and bought it without realizing it would follow me EVERYWHERE. Oh well, you live, and learn. Next time I know to check here first.
BTW, since I haven’t seen it announced here yet, HBO Go has finally been added to Fire TV. It’s listed, rather inconspicuously, I might add, in the “Entertainment” section under Apps.
Funny thing is the same thing happened to me. I saw the app and instantly bought it since it’s a feature I’ve been wanting for a while. Installed it and was happy. Then while I was writing this post the screensaver on the Fire TV kicked on and the flaw smacked me in the face.
I considered scrapping this entire post but figured I should still put it up if only to let people know about the flaw.
