Amazon has announced an all-new Fire HD 10 tablet for $149.99 and, for the first time, a Fire HD 10 Plus variant for $179.99 that comes with a bit more RAM and extra features. Compared to the outgoing model that was released in 2019, the new Fire HD 10 has more RAM to improve performance and a brighter screen that is made with stronger glass. The extra $30 for the “Plus” model adds even more RAM, wireless charging, and a premium soft touch finish.
Powering the new Fire HD 10 is still the same MediaTek MT8183 octa-core CPU that clocks in at 2 GHz. What has changed, however, is a welcomed bump up from 2GB to 3GB of RAM in the new model. Storage is still 32GB for the base model or you can increase that to 64GB for $30 more, but that’s not entirely necessary since there is still a microSD card slot with support for up to 1TB of external storage.
Amazon is touting an improved screen on the new model. While it still a 10.1-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 for full 1080p video, the screen can now get 10% brighter than the one on the outgoing model. Amazon says the screen is “strengthened with aluminosilicate glass” which, I assume, is an improvement over the old tablet’s screen with regards to durability. The new tablet is also slightly thinner and lighter than the old model, but not by much.
The front camera is still 2MP but it is now landscape-oriented, which makes more sense for video calls in my opinion. Around the back is now a 5MP rear camera which replaces the old model’s 2MP rear camera. Connectivity is what you’d expect with Bluetooth 5.0 and 802.11ac Wifi. The tablet has up to 12 hours of battery life and is charged through a USB-C 2.0 port that takes 4 hours to charge from dead with the included power adapter, but Amazon is selling a 15W power adapter for quicker charge times.
For the first time, Amazon is making a Fire HD 10 Plus variant of their new flagship tablet that costs $30 more. For that extra money, you get a bump up from 3GB of RAM to 4GB. The Plus model also has a premium soft-touch finish and includes wireless charging that is compatible with any Qi wireless charger, although one is not included. For the top of the line package, you can get the Fire HD 10 Plus bundle with a Wireless Charger for $219.99. This wireless charger props the tablet up and automatically puts it in Show Mode to act as an Echo Show when docked.
Amazon is talking up the productivity aspects of both the Fire HD 10 and HD 10 Plus tablets with this latest generation. They’ve added a new split-screen feature to Fire OS 7 that allows for two compatible apps to site side-by-side for better multitasking. Amazon is also selling a Fire HD 10 Productivity Bundle for $219.99 that includes a Bluetooth keyboard case ($49.99 separately) and a 12-month subscription to Microsoft 365, which normally costs $69.99 from Microsoft.
As if all those different bundles and variants weren’t enough, there is also a Fire HD 10 Kids tablet for kids ages 3-7 and, for the first time, a Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet that is tailored for older kids ages 6-12. Both kid versions cost $199.99 and come with the same Fire HD 10 tablet as the non-kids versions. They also both come with a 1-year subscription to Amazon Kids+ and a 2-year worry-free guarantee. Where they differ is the included case, where the “Kid” case is thicker and more robust, and the “Kids Pro” case is more of a traditional case.
All variants of the new Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet are available to pre-order now and will ship on May 26. Below is the massive list of different versions and bundles that are available to choose from.

Been waiting for this refresh. Well, now I can wait a little longer for the inevitable sale. Hopefully Prime day?
They need to add pencil/stylus support to their tablets, this would make it more desired.
“They’ve added a new split-screen feature to Fire OS 7 that allows for two compatible apps to site side-by-side for better multitasking.”
Does this mean my HD10 2019 version will get this “software” feature? My HD 10 is on Fire OS 188.8.131.52
If so how do you do the two apps side by side?
Thanks for this info
I assume older tablets, especially the 2019, will get the feature, but I haven’t been able to find out for sure.
no ,just no Amazon , what are you thinking?
they really need to add magnets and a 3 pin connector for a folio keyboard cover
The wireless charging is nice but I would have rather they just added a 3 pin dock connector for folio keyboards and a show mode charging dock instead
glad to see the bum up to 4gb of RAM but they didn’t refresh the processor so not really worth it for the plus model at that price point given the choices of Chinese tablets and cell carrier deals for tablets these days
It would cost them next to nothing to just add a couple magnets and a 3 pin connector ,oh well maybe next generation, I certainly will not be upgrading from the 2019 for this
Do you expect that this is it for 2021, or do you think the 7″ or 8″ could be updated this year?
Doesn’t sound like much of an upgrade. I would like wireless charging, but considering I managed to get the 10 for $50 during the last sale I’ll pass on this version until the 11th or 12th gen versions comes out.
This IS the 11th gen version.
Ops. My bad. Sorry. NOT the 11th gen…
