A new filing that passed through the FCC this morning appears to be for a second generation Amazon Dash button. First discovered by FCC ninja Dave Zatz, the FCC documents carry the telltale signs of an Amazon product. The big giveaway that it’s a new Amazon Dash is the familiar capsule shaped bottom, seen above, which is nearly identical to the silhouette found in the first generation device’s FCC documents. Unlike the current Amazon Dash buttons, this new device now has Bluetooth capabilities in additional to 802.11 WiFi that the original relies on. Another change revealed by the FCC documents is a bump in voltage which indicates the new Dash likely houses a pair of AAA batteries instead of just one like the existing Dash.
The addition of Bluetooth is intriguing and could indicate additional functionality beyond simply ordering products. There have been rumors of an Amazon kitchen computer, codenamed Kabinet, which could communicate with these new Dash buttons via the new Bluetooth capabilities.
