Netflix has just raised the price of their standard plan from $9.99 to $10.99 and has raised the price of their premium plan, which grants you 4K content, from $11.99 to $13.99. According to Mashable, come this November, those new prices will go into effect for everyone with no grandfather period.
The basic Netflix plan, which I suspect hardly anyone has since it only allows standard definition streaming, has remained and will remain $7.99. It’s the standard and premium plans, which the vast majority of subscribers have, that have already increased for new members and will increase in about a month for all existing subscribers.
The price hikes will go into effect in November for existing subscribers. The exact date depends on when your individual billing cycle ends. Starting on October 19th, Netflix will begin notifying its users of the price increase with a 30 day notice.
When Netflix last increased their prices in 2015, they implemented a grandfathering system that delayed the increase for many existing users until 2016. That won’t be the case this time because this latest price increase will go into effect immediately when it arrives next month.

I was already wondering if I still need Netflix, as I spend more time watching youtube and other content. Now another price increase makes me think it’s time to drop it for a while and see if I miss it or not.

I am single, and like everything else, the economies of scale are impacted. If I had 3-5 people watching Netflix I would keep it. But for just myself, esp as I have been watching it less and less, not sure it makes sense anymore.
I’m tempted to offer on of my brothers $5/month and piggy back on one of their accounts.

It seems to be only affecting new customers as my account is still saying 9.99 plan but when i sign out and see the sign-up prices it’s saying 10.99

More price creep. I’m already on holiday for the next month from using Netflix. I cancelled for now a couple of weeks ago and I haven’t missed it yet. I have a philosophical difference with Netflix spending so much money on original content I’ll never watch. Price increases are the result of what I see as over spending on content. I’m already a Prime member and so I get what I get from Amazon. There are other ways to get content, and I’ve said for a couple years that there is in fact a point where Netflix’s pricing reaches the point I think it’s too much. I definitely would not pay more than 15.00 anytime soon. I was grandfathered at 7.99 and absorbed the increase when that went away. I will have to be motivated more than I am at this moment to pay more than what I’m paying.
Glad it’s included in my Tmobile plan.
Otherwise I would have cancelled them that day they announced the increase.
For me, the breadth of programming on Netflix still makes it a bargain at the increased price.
Netflix is really under valued when it comes to their current pricing plans. To tell you the truth, I would gladly pay $15 a month, similar to HBO, Showtime, etc. The original content alone is worth the price if you look at how many quality shows they have now, plus the huge library of other TV shows and movies go unrivaled compared to the premium channels. Keep the shows coming, and I Will keep paying. I will admit that I go in spurts… I go a month or two without even watching Netflix, then I question if I should cancel – I then go on and get addicted to a show and binge it for weeks.

There is no savings to cord cutting anymore, most of these streaming companies forget you must have high speed internet first, and the cable companies have smartened up to it. It’s the most expensive part of any plan! I have Verizon, they charge me $80 per month for 75/75 internet, to have unlimited phone and AND an HD cable plan…only $40 more combined! No point in paying for any streaming service.
For me, there is still a huge savings over cable. I was paying $285 per month for the Verizon triple play. I switched to optimum 200/50 internet for $59.99 & have PS Vue & Sling (wife has to have Hallmark). I am now paying $145 per month with Netflix & Amazon Prime. The biggest savings over cable is the taxes & box fees. Which for me was $85 per month

I just looked at my queue, and some items have been there for probably years. House of Cards is the only “can’t miss” content I see. 97% of my queue is falls in “only if I can’t find anything good to watch” filler material.
Hmm time to see if ther is anything worth watching on it.. I have been watching more Prime lately. New Lucifer is awesome!

Netflix is not worth it anymore. There is nothing to watch and I hate there mature originals so much. I would have cancelled them this minute but T-Mobile is footing the bill so it is pointless even though now I watch Hulu and other services more now.
Some of us are retired and living on a fixed income. Everything keeps going up except my income. I already cut cable. Soon Netflix will be cut too.
Arrrgh!!! The Pirates will be taking to the seas over this! But seriously, talk about shooting yourself in the foot, at this point Hulu may be a better option.
Guess I will link it with my TMobile account. Ultra HD isn’t all that much better. It’s become more for children as far as most of their content. Really wish they had less content with better releases. About the only movies they released lately that I’ve watched are Marvel movies. With Orange is The New Black being the only must see for me. So if it’s coming out if my pocket I will be done.
I left Netflix before the first price increase. Making physical media a separate service was, technically, a price increase. More important, that move shaved their library of a lot of content I wanted. Before the first actual price bump, Netflix started replacing content I wanted to watch with programming they wanted to sell me. I figured I would sign up again for a month or two in the winter to binge on stuff, but I never did.

Not happy about the price increase, but Netflix is still an amazing deal to me. It, and Amazon are still the only 4K HDR content I get on my shiny TV.
We split the $12 plan across 4 people. So my bill is only going up $.50.
I cancelled for now, i was irked that Netflix tied Ultr HD to 4 streams, I’m living by myself dont need 4 streams and not sure why i have to pay 4 bucks extra a month for the higher rez. Also I’m finding that alot of the original content is slipping in quality. I sub to Hulu I get Live tv and commercial free and their catalokg for $43 a month and what i get on AMazon Prime, gives me more than enough content along with Youtube
Seeming almost well thought out, (ha ha) Hulu has price reductions and if I read it right the special rates are for a year. 5.99 with ads, instead of 7.99. I usually re-up occasionally at the no ads tier, but at that price I’m going to try the ads tier for a month.
Hulu is getting so much better then Netflix I call them now Notflix.
Is it? I’m tempted to try Hulu again. I just cancelled my Netflix account, and figure I can join Hulu for half the price.
If you would have asked me 2 years ago I would have not touched Hulu with a long pole but now since they offer an ad free version and actually release licensed content everyone can watch Hulu can release there mature original garbage but as long as they keep adding licensed content I don’t care.
If Netflix or what I call Notflix did that it would be fine but to get rid of over 100 titles a month some good ones anyone can watch for the next sex profane original is making the service worth it. NF is turning into HBO which I don’t like anymore there is never new movies and all there originals are mature.
$1 is a modest increase. But they just bumped up the price last year. Too soon, Netflix, too soon.
