Netflix now lets you download content for offline viewing on mobile devices

Netflix has announced that subscribers can now finally download movies and shows for offline viewing. As expected, the new feature is only available on mobile devices, like Android and iOS phones and tablets. You won’t be able to download content onto the Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick. You can download content onto a mobile device and then cast that content to a Fire TV, but the Fire TV must be online or else the Netflix app on the Fire TV reports an error and refuses to play the remote content.

Has anyone tested what this is like in practice performance wise?

I’m regularly at a hotel with rubbish wifi so being able to stream from my mobile would be handy even if the device still has to be online.
